FOOTBALL 1946 Football opened with a bang and I mean with a real honest to goodness Bang in Ol T H S People who had never come out to see the Tigers play were behind them and thats all it took to open a good season Our first game was played on September 13 against Navasota at Prichett Field Huntsville The scrappy Tigers won by the tight score of 6 2 The Rat tlers made their two points on a safety The Tigers score came on a pass to Owens h nd zone The Tigers next obiective was Woodville This game was played on September 20 The under rated Eagles came out on the short end of a 41 U score The Tiger touchdowns were made by Walker Hartless and Mc Guire The Tigers blocking looked like improvement and the forward wall was very hard to penetrate After a week s rest from the scorn of battle the Tigers played their first game on the new field here in Trinity The Tige s played host to the Madisonville Mustangs Thus on October 4 the Red s team went down 1n defeat to the tune of 24 0 The touchdowns were made by ,h Walker McGuire and Hartless. -' ' On October ll the Tigers packed their bags and moved to Czrapeland to tackle the air-minded Sandies. However, the Grapelancl bunch just didn't fly high or fast enough to overtake the Tigers. The Trinity boys proved .Y they could go on land or in the air as they mastered the Sandies I9-U. The Tigers pass defense showed strength as well as the forward wall. Touchdowns were made by Hartless and McGuire. Again, on October 18, we played host to an aggressive Alto Yellow-lacket team. Alto boasted a strong team and gave Trinity a run for their money. Neither of the forward walls could stop the hard running offense. The Yellow- Iackets totaled 24 points while the Tigers outpointed them with 27. Touchdowns were made by Owens, Walker, and McGuire. l all I 3 5 an ? 5,983 dj ,gigfgx Now we come to the only downfall of the Tlger team Four or f1ve coaches and four or hve thousand people proved too much to pmck from as the T1gers lost to Huntsvllle However the well coached T1gers showed they werent afra1d of the last years d1str1ct champs as the Huntsvxlle Hornets were held to a seven polnt lead at the half Even though the Hornets reserve staff proved too much for small Tr1n1ty the boys put up-a real scrap At the end of the game the Tr1n1ty T1gers had no hard feehngs as they were Just beaten falr and square Now all the boys are saymg quote Wcut T1ll Next Year' The fxnal score was Huntsv1l1e 26 Trlmty O Opemng a new month on November 1 the T1gers took on Corrlgan Boy what a day' lt was one of those days when Uncle Lem lost hxs loafers 1n the mud runn1ng up and down the sldellnes trylng vaxnly to keep up w1th Walker Hartless Owens and MCGUITS Poor Uncle Lem hes bare looted now He should have worn h1s wa1st boots Agam the T1gers trounced by the score of 28 O Boys was that ball hard to hold? ,geii On Thursday November 7 the T1gers played Grove 'ww ton on the new held Groveton went down 1n defeat 32 O Groveton belng Tr1n1tys enemy NO ONE really tr1ed hard to hold the T1gers but they had no luck Tr1n1tys R E Tommy Haralson ran w1ld as he completed two passes for touchdowns Eugene Walker s arm was really all there The T1gers have a htgh score to get even wxth Groveton Well folks heres a new one for you The T1gers Journeyed to Rusk Tex for the1r n1nth game Rusk had a good team but not good enough to stop the T1gers Walker and Hartl ss both scored wlth Burke convert1ng to rack up a l3 0 vlctory Now comes Crockett' Leedlker and Long proved they could move under pressure The score was 13 U at the half After the half the Txgers began to dr1ve and made the score 13 7 But Crockett f1nall ended u on the lon Y P 9 end of a 25 7 vrctory 58 so Thus ends a successful season for a determ1ned T1ger eleven Havmg won erght games and lost two batik . . . , 1 . 1 1 1 1 . .. . . ,, . . 1 1 1 I I I , .
