TRINITY NINE TAKE 20-8 RECURD INTO STATE DEBUT Under the direction of four-year head coach Wayne Walker qbottom rightj, the Trinity baseball team compiled a 15-8 regular season slate. 4-1 and 8-6 victories over arch-rival St. X . and P.R.P. capped the season schedule and created momentum for the Rocks as they entered post-season action. In the 26th district opener at Trinity Field, pitcher Dan Gadlage hurled the Rocks to a 5-2 triumph over the Atherton Rebels. Gadlage went the distance allowing just three hits and striking out twelve. Later in the week, powered byiPhil Amthor s fopp. page, top leftj three run single, Trinity whipped Seneca 7-2 to wrap up the district cham ions i . it St. pf for the Regional, the Irish exploded for ten runs on nine hits to crush first round opponent T .J . 10-l. Dan Gadlage tossed a sparkling three-hitter and also paced the Rocks hitting attack with three safeties and five runs batted in. The followintg day Trinity sidelined Flaget '7-3 in the semi-fina s. Dave Sweets performed the mound chores, chalking up his ifth victory in seven decisions. In the finals of the three-day Tournament, the Shamrocks captured their first Reglional crown as Dan Gadlagie came on in relief of starter Joe Fowler to preserve a 4-3 extra- inning thriller over Bis op David. Gadlage struc out ll in his five inning relief stint and received credit for the victor . Id,Trinity's State Tournament debut, the Irish bandwagon was sidetracked 3-0 by Elizabethtown, the eventual state champion.
