qabovej Senior center Larry Loehle emerged as team leader and strongman on offense, averag- ing 17.2 points a game to top 26th district scorers. Sophomore guard Don Freibert fopp. pg. , rightj and junior forward Stan Block fopp. pg., top lefty also developed into team main- stays. Freibert, as team playmaker, directed the Irish offense. Block anchored the defense with his rebounding strength and supplemented Loehle in the scoring column. frightj After piloting the Rocks to a 12-I3 record this season Bob Schmidt resigned as head basketball coach at Trinity. The 1968 Regional Coach of the Year compiled a three-year record of 37-39. 62 IRI H A lot of question marks, was how head coach Bob Schmidt rated his bas- ketball prospects in late November. We have only three seniors and none of them were starters. However, the Irish progressively overcame their in- experience and battled to a IO-II regular season slate. Entering post- season action, the Rocks boasted an inflexible defense and a competent, though erratic, offense. In the district opener, with four players scoring in double figures, Trinity swept by Country Day 78-34. Larry Loehle led the balanced offen- sive attack with l5 points. Advanc- ing into the final with Atherton, the y Irish were overtaken by a second half I Rebel rally and fell 65-52. In the Regional, paced by Stan I Block's 17 points, the Rocks scored a steady 65-49 victory over first round foe Jeffersontown.
