X-ME CAPTURE THIRD IN STATE MEET With a strong season's showing, the 1969 Cross-Country team has further strengthened Trinity's position as a perennial contender for the State crown. Led by seniors Harold Graves and Dan Barth and sophomore Dave Price, Coach Bealmear 's squad ran off a string of seven consecutive dual meet victories before tying eventual state co- champion DeSales and suffering a disappoint- ing late season loss to Atherton. In invitation- al meets, the Rocks rounded out the season with fourth place finishes at New Albany, Trinity, and Thomas Jefferson, and a sixth place finish at Owensboro. In each invitational, the Sham- rocks trailed eventual state co-champions De- Sales and Thomas Jefferson. In a bid for their fifth consecutive Regional crown, the harriers were stunned by the West- port Warhawks 41-58. The defeat tasted even more bitter in View of Trinity's earlier 25-36 conquest of Westport in dual meet competition. Disgusted with their sub-par regional per- formance, the Irish bounced back in the State Meet to edge Westport 140-142 for third place behind DeSales and Thomas Jefferson who tied for first. SOCCER TEAM POSTS BEST EVER 5-5 RECORD With the accent on an unyielding defense, the soccer team forged a 5-5 record and nailed down fifth place in the league. Trinity limit- ed its opponents to a meager 10 goals for the regular season. Only Westport tallied as many as three goals in a single game against the Rocks. Unfortunately, inconsistent scoring plagued Trinity throughout the campaign, pre- venting the Irish from bettering their break- even record . Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to St. X in the season opener, Trinity reeled off con- secutive victories over Westport, Waggener, and St. Thomas Seminary. Then, in an abrupt about face, the Rocks proceeded to lose the next three games, before salvaging a 31- tri- umph over Moore in their season finale. In State Tournament play, the Irish ad- vanced into the semi-finals with an overtime victory over K .M.I., the number one ranked team. However, Trinity was stopped 2-1 in the next round by St. Thomas Seminary. Alla... TRINITY ST . X . TRINITY WESTPORT TRINITY WAGGENER TRINITY ST .
