Trinity's varsity debate team, consisting of juniors Dan Bischoff, Bruce Davenport, Dave Wagner, and sophomore Buddy Rogers, attained an 8-8 overall record this year. This was quite an achievement, for all of the team's members were first-year debaters. The varsity team wound up in fifth place in their league, losing to Seneca in a playoff round which deci- ded fourth place. One of the highlights of the debate season was a series of televised con- tests, Reason and Controversy, sponsored by Bellarmine- Ursuline College and WLKY-TV, in which Trinity participated. In these contests, Trinity won its first two debates against Western and Southern, but failed to win in their third and fourth appearances against tough teams from Sacred Heart and Waggener, respectively. The .TV debaters Cjuniors Terry Hancock, Mike Riordan, sophomore Jim Dickens, and freshman Bruce Tomassettij, finished with an excellent 8-2- league record , placing first in their bracket. They also placed third in the city championship tournament, losing only on speaker points, which enabled the debaters to finish with a 12-5 overall record. In an interstate tourna- ment at Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the JVs placed second out of the twenty- five schools competing.
