FaTher STeinhauser's ideas and aTTainrnenTs in ChrisTian educaTion have been an inspiraTion To us during our Tour years under his supervision and guidance. We feel we have been mosT TorTunaTe in having daily conTacT wiTh This Champion of YouTh. For while Monsignor STeinhauser is well known as SuperinTendenT of Boys' High Schools in The Archdiocese, To us he is known as a regular guy. , The Graduafes

HOW TRINITY HAS GROWN TriniTy High School firsT came inTo exisTence in SepTember, 1953. Seeing The growfh of The suburbs in The easT end of Louisville and ulTimaTely The need for anoTher CaTholic boys' high school, The MosT Rev. John A. Floersh, Archbishop of Louisville, decided To locaTe anofher school in ThaT area. He chose 4011 FrankforT Avenue, in The ciTy of ST. N1aTThews, as The siTe. The building which housed The firsT 106 freshmen To enroll in The school was formerly The school and church of Holy TriniTy parish. For The firsT Two years of iTs exisTence The school was called Holy TriniTy High School buT iT was shorfened To TriniTy High School To avoid confusion wiTh The parish. Monsignor Alfred W. STeinhauser was a.ppoinTed Principal. T Of The original class, 83 seniors remain To compose The firsT graduaT- ing class This year. The school has grown from ThaT 106 To iTs presenT enrollmenT of 605. In 1953 four Teachers Uhe Reverends John Glick, John RusTerholTz, Alfred STeinhauser, and Mr. Thomas Sheehanl consTiTuTed The Teaching sTaff. They TaughT Three homerooms. In 1954 The sophomore year was added, 1955 saw The addiTion of The iunior year, and This year TriniTy has iTs firsT senior class. There are now 18 homerooms TaughT by 15 Archdiocesan priesTs and eighT lay Teachers. In SepTember, 1953, only seven courses were offered To The firsT class, This year 40 differenT courses are being TaughT. Green and whiTe were chosen by The sTudenTs as school colors, parTly because They were The colors of Holy TriniTy Parish, buT primarily because They combined The green of ST. X and The whiTe of Flagef. The firsT sTudenT body also chose The Shamrock To be The school emblem. This symbol was selecTed because iT is green and because iT is a TradiTional symbol of The Blessed TriniTy. The firsT graduaTing class has inauguraTed many firsTs To which This book is dedicaTed. TriniTy's firsT enTry inTo sporTs saw iTs firsT freshman Teams compile a 1-3 fooTball record and a 13-11 baskeTball record under The guidance of Coach Gene Rhodes. The firsT vicTory in any sporT To be recorded in The school's hisTory came when iTs freshman fooTball Team of 1953 Triumphed over ST. Xavier's freshmen by 7-6. Rhodes served as head coach for Two years and resigned. Charles Jeep Quire was Then engaged and has served as head coach ever since. TriniTy's firsT VARSITY fooTball Team 11955-19561 won four and losT four, The baskeTball Team won 14 and losT nine. The firsT Trophy To be earned for The school was won by iTs firsT Cross,CounTry Team which placed Third in The sTaTe and second in The region and in The Annual Shamrock Run of 1956. Mr. Louis J. Hollenbach Jr. was elecTed The firsT presidenT of The TriniDads, which was organized in The opening monTh of The school's exisTence. The ParenT-Teachers AssociaTion was also formed Then. Mr. Thomas Creagh Sr. was elecTed iTs firsT presidenT.
