Overwhelmed and astonished, the faculty peeked out of their doors and saw the 340 Freshmen who in four short, wonderful years would be the graduating class of 1960. Gary Johnson President Robert Ewart Vice President Jean Kubovcik Treasurer Peggy Hopkins Secretary JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Another milestone has been passed in the fast moving history of the class of “61” Our Junior year. This has been the most eventful and successful year so far, and the enthusiasm and togetherness of all the members of the class reached its peak during the past year. The Junior Play was the first big activity and we successfully presented ‘The Magic Touch’’. After the excitment of our long-awaited class rings died down, we turned all of our attention to our two major events of the year. First of all, the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance, and secondly, the all-important Junior Prom. During our three years at Trinity, the members of our class have brought recog- nition to themselves and to the class in all phases of school life. We look forward to Miases of 1961 next year with mixed emotions; — happy as we think of the thrills of being a Senior and the excitement of the events ahead, but, sad that it will be the conclusion of fun- filled high school days. New faces, new subjects, and new activities awaited us, but in the course of a few months we all became familiar with these and many other high school ways. Now we are Sophomores, slowly progressing up the Trinity Ladder. During the past year we held a very successful record dance after one of the foot- ball games, sold Trinity pens, and on March 11 we held a dance following the theme of the Sesquicentennial. The climax of the year was the class party, which was held in the spring. We the Sophomores feel that we have gained much during the past two years and we are eagerly looking forward to two more profitable and exciting years here at Trinity. But the activities of our instrumental musicians were not limited to marching season; for soon concert season was in full swing, climaxed by a thrilling spring festival. Our thanks goes to them for added enthusiasm and atmosphere in pep as- semblies, football games, parades, and for outstanding concert performances. Intermediate Band Trinity High School was well repre- sented at County Band with a total of fourteen participants: Ron Christman, Dick Crompton, Tom Franks, Bill Ghrist, Denny Hall, Ed Kitlinger, Cleo Martin, Linda Moore, Carolyn New- lon, Gary Richmond, Tony Ross, Sherri Sedora, John Simpson, and John Smith. Dick Crompton, Carolyn Newlon, and Bill Ghrist went on to District Band, then Carolyn and Bill represented our school at a regional festival while Tony Ross attended Western Pennsyl- vania Honors Band. Burgh scoring three times, and Tokar and Bailey one each, led Trinity to an easy victory. Uniontown 0 — Trinity 13 It is said the best defense is a good offence. This seemed to be true for the trip to Uniontown where Trinity’s alert linemen enabled Nick Stellavato to pick up a fumble and race 44 yards for the six- pointer. Previous to the highlight of the evening, Dick ‘Tokar climaxed a 62 yard drive, piloted clever- ly by Tom Anderson, as the team stayed completely on the ground. Mt. Lebanon 25 — Trinity 0 The hopes of Trinity having a perfect record diminished when Mt. Lebanon defeated Trinity 25 to 0. At the halfway mark the score was 6 to 0. But the second half saw Trinity fighting back and playing with everything she had. Munhall 7 — Trinity 0 The statistics of this game were in favor of Trinity, but the score proved the victor, as Trinity suffered its second defeat 7 to 0. Tom Anderson turned in another fine job in handling the team. Rochester 0 — Trinity 19 Trinity returned to the win column defeating Rochester 19 to 0. Bob Burgh returned to uniform for the first time since the Uniontown game, and Bucky Bryner saw his first real action since a knee injury sidelined him last year. Burgh carried the ball well and operated on defense, while Bryner threw twice to John Zipko for two scores. North Hills 7 — Trinity 26 Trinity met a fine team of boys in facing North Hills, but the forces of Trinity were a little too much as Trinity defeated North Hills 26 to 7. Trinity’s hard work on pass defense paid off in another victory. Wash High 6 — Trinity 14 In perhaps the most important game of the year, Trinity was favored and did come out on top as city champ. This was the first time since 1953 that Trintiy had defeated Wash High. Wash High scored first, but Trinity came back on a Bryner to Bailey pass covering 34 yards. The conversion was good as Tokar belted over. In the third quarter Ferralli ran the ball well to the 9. Anderson passed to Zipko to the goal, and Tokar carried over for the final score. Redstone 0 — Trinity 7 The only other team that was as large as the Hillers returned the victim of defeat. Moses Bailey preformed very well scoring the only points in the game by being on the receiving end of a pass play. Canon-McMillan 19 — Trinity 34 Trinity put the finishing touches on a very suc- cessful season by defeating Canon-McMillan 34 to 19. Everybody got into action with the exception of ‘Tokar who had a cracked ankle. The end of the game marked the end of 22 Seniors playing for Trinity. The 1959 Football Season ‘Trinity fans have something to cheer about this year, as Trinity won the city-championship, and placed guard Nick Stellavato in the “Big 33”. Ken Craft received Honorable mention. On the all con- ference. team were Nick Stellavato and Bob Burgh, Ken Craft and Vic Bober on the second team. The jobs done by the rest of the boys should not be for- gotten. Anderson, Dunn, Bryant, Hinerman, Unie- jewsky, Ward, Gilmore, Truby, Tokar, Giecek, Bryner, Ferralli, Bailey, Lobis, Reese, Newell, Hayes, Johnson all did fine jobs. The overall picture displayed a fine brand of football, as the Hillers compiled a 7 and 2 record and probably the most impressive was the 14-6 win over cross-city rival, Wash High, while losing only to Mt. Lebanon and Munhall. In setting this re- cord, the Hillers gave up only 70 points as compared with our 147, Ken Craft Nick Stellevato Tom Anderson John Ferralli Bob Burgh George Reese Gary Truby Woody Ward Ed Uniejewski Vic Bober John Zipko John Lobis Bucky Bryner Ed Bryant Bud Hayes Mitchell Dick Tokar Tom Dunn Dick Geicek Frank Hinerman John Gilmore Cliff Newell BE Ram Sr rete gore: Varsity Basketball Under their new coach, Thomas Davies, Trinity had it’s most successful basketball season in several years, high- lighted by its first victory over Wash- ington in twelve years.
