Don fwith his running smile, Charms the ladies all the fwhile. SENIOR CLASS HISTORY ln the fall of 1939, 350 boys and girls stepped upon the freshman rung of Trini- ty's traditional ladder. VVe were not slow at establishing ourselves because we were enthusiastic and anxious to become a part of Trinity. On January 31, we held our first classmeeting. We elected the following as our leaders: President, Ellsworth Hunt, Vice President, Homer Chivers, Secretary, El- sie Rossg Treasurer, Betty Chambers. Gur advisers were Miss Kiblinger and Mr. Clark. ln 1940, having reached the second rung we elected as officers: President, Wil- liam Davis, Vice President, Joseph Patrick, Secretary, Alice Green, Treasurer, Mil- dred Yorkin. VVhen Bill Davis changed schools, Joe Patrick took over his duties. This year we sponsored our first evening affair: The Sophomore Traffic Jam. VVe also held a very successful tea dance. As Juniors, we felt very important, since we were, at last, upperclassmen. VVe knew this would be a very busy year and immediately elected as President, Robert Dentzerg Vice President, John Chupinskyg Secretary, Mona Lu Dunn, Treasurer, Mil- dred Yorkin. Just as we had become thoroughly established on the third rung, our President, Robert Dentzer joined the Marines, and Mr. Clark, our capable adviser, went to the Army. XVe elected Mr. lVIorrison as adviser and John Chupinsky became President. We edited six issues of The Hiller and had the largest circulation of any Jun- ior Paper. Our class put forth their dramatic ability very successfully in the Junior Play 'AOne VVi1d Nightfl Un January ninth, we sponsored The Junior Blitz. But our most important and longest remembered dance was the Hpromf' It was a Garden Party, held May 22 in the gym with Paul Hickson and his orchestra. Our decorations of leaves and Howers gave a very special atmosphere to the dance. The Junior year was more fun and work than the years previous to it, so we were looking forward to being Seniors with many ambitions. Now we are Seniors! The time is nigh for us to prove what a truly great class We are. Our officers for 1942 and 1943 are: President, Rudy Sisulg Vice President, Paul VValkerg Secretary, Mona Lu Dunn, Treasurer, Mildred Yorkin. Rudy entered the Army in January. Paul Walker succeeded him and Don Cain was elected Vice President. lN1r. Robert Scott was chosen our class adviser to succeed Mr. Morrison who is in the Navy. A Senior dance was held November sixth. May 12, a service Hag, representing all the boys in the services from the class of 1943, was dedicated. Thus, on May 28, we said good-bye to Trinity. VVe have gained the fourth rung of our ladder, but there are many more. Some of us will reach the top sooner than others. But we all hope to find success in this world which we must help to rebuild. JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Xve, the Juniors, started our career at Trinity as a mighty throng, the largest number ever to enroll here. Though some of our members have left us, either to join the armed forces or for other reasons, We are still a fighting class. ln our freshman year We had Mr. Ross and Miss Dempster as ad- visers. Under their leadership We had a very successful and profitable Tea Dance. Our UKid Partyn proved great fun for everyone. VVhen We advanced to the position of Sophomores, We held the Sophomore Dance with Paul Hickson's Orchestra. This, too, proved a very successful undertaking. The Sophomore tea dance Holly Hop , and party, Were also events of that year. Now in our Junior year, we ran into some difficulties. Mr. Ross became a lieutenant in the Army, and Miss Dempster secured a teaching position at another school. Thus We elected Mr. McKay and Miss Fer- alli as our advisers. But again the Army called and hlr. McKay an- swered. hlr. Decker was then chosen as co-adviser. As upperclassmen We edited The Hillerf' VVe held a tea dance and also the Spring Fling, the orchestra was Lee Barrett. A Hobo Party proved a funful night. The hloonlight Prom, hlay 21, was the great climax for this year as Juniors. The music was furnished by Nlorgan Carter. After the usual ribbing from the upperclassmen, We started our class activities with hope for a good year. On January 7, 1943, our Hrst class meeting was held. The Alumni Dance this year will propably not be held on account of the present war. M I s s RUTH MYERS The Junior Girl Reserves is a nation-Wide organization sponsored by the Y.W.C.A. and is composed of one hundred and five members from the sophomore and freshman classes. Nleetings are held every other Tuesday and they consist of speakers, musical entertainment and plays. This year the Junior Girl Reserves have cooperated with the other Girl Reserves in the lnstallation Service held at Washington High School, Hlling Christmas baskets, giving a Christmas program at the Y.W.C.A. We also helped with two nation-Wide events, The Rally-Round-About and a Community Party. A party was held for the Junior Hi-Y during the year and was pro- nounced a success. 4. SENIOR GIRL RESERVES 2 With an impressive candle-light service, held at Washington High School in the fall, the Senior Girl Reserve Club began another year of finding and giving the best. Mrs. Allison and Miss Floto are the advisers. We participated in the Rally Round About and Town Party. Two dances were held at the Y.VV.C.A. this year, one after the Can- onsburg football game and the other on New Yearis Eve. The main highlight of the year was Midwinter Conference, held this year at Washington, Pa. Miss Elsie Ross, president of our club, was the Conference Chairman. Other activities included filling Christmas boxes for poor children and a party at which the Senior Hi-Y were guests. MONINGER The Junior Hi-Y is an organization composed of thirty-one sopho- more and freshmen boys whose purpose it is to promote high standards of Christian character throughout the school and the community. Club functions have been greatly retarded in the past year due to prevailing conditions and the absence of the president. Our meetings have been fewer in number as transportation also presents a most difficult problem. At the beginning of the year our club included only eleven boys, thus plans for the induction of new members were readily made. The prospective members must have an average of C or above and complete approval of the club upon entrance. Both an informal and formal initia- tion vvere held for the twenty-one boys Who joined. Three of the members were in attendance at the conference held in Erie. Throughout the year the club joins with the Girl Reserves in vari- ous social activities. M Rs. SPRIGGS In the autumn of 1942, the S. P. Q. R. Club, better known as the Latin Club, again launched with Mrs. Spriggs at the helm. The name of our club is taken from the motto of the ancient Romans 'Senatus Pop- ulusque Romans, meaning The Senate and the Roman People. This club is really for students taking advanced Latin, but at the end of the first semester, the freshmen and sophomores with at least a grade of BH are taken into the club. They attend only one or two meetings. The purpose of our club is to stimulate an interest in Roman clas- sics, language and customs. Tye hold our meetings every Thursday during the regular class period. Having a Latin Club makes the study much more interesting because it enables the student to get a better background of the Roman classics, language and customs. Our club motto is Scientia ipsa auctoritas est which means Knowl- edge itself is authority. The advanced members are now trying to live up to this motto, while suffering with Aeneas in his hardships and adventures. It has grown from a small room and a few books to a large colorful room containing over a thousand books. This year over a hundred books have been added. These are composed of fiction and reference books. The library also has subscriptions to sixteen periodicals. During National Book VVeek, exhibits and different types of books were on display. The motto for the week was Forward With Books. The library also helped to collect books for soldiers during the Victory Book Campaign. aa? COMMERCIAL CLUB The purpose of the Commercial Club is to obtain some practical experience in the Commercial Department by performing secretarial duties for various teachers. Also, its purpose is to interest students in the devel- opment of commercial subjects. The meetings are held on the second Monday of each month. The club is composed of Seniors and Juniors who have attained a required average in their commercial subjects. The club has enjoyed many interesting programs which consisted of speeches from members of the faculty and the commercial World. Some activities planned were, a very successful Tea Dance and 11 Banquet in honor of the Seniors. JUNIOR PAPER STAFF X37 e tie e l i This year brought about a rebirth of the school paper. This pub- lication was published four times. The last edition was especially dedicated to the graduating class of 43. The paper was completely changed from what it had been. It assumed the shape and form of a real newspaper. This new style of paper was accepted at once by the student body. As a special feature, each paper was dedicated to a member of the faculty who had entered the Armed Forces. The Hiller is a school paper but it is published by the .Tunior Class with a staff composed entirely of Juniors. This year the paper advisers were Mr. McKay and Miss Dempster, both of whom left before the mid-year. Their work was carried on by Miss Feralli and Mr. Decker, newly elected class advisers. VVe also had charge of the Father and Son Banquet. HOME ECONOMICS CLUB The Home Economics Department of 1942-43 is composed of approx- imately fifty members. The Freshman and Sophomore classes each elect their own officers and conduct their own meetings. Initiation for the twenty-nine freshmen started the year's club activ- ities. This was followed by regular monthly meetings of social and edu- cational character. A Christmas Party Was the climax of the first semes- ter's activities. ' Presidents for the first semester include Ruby Longstreath and Sarah Hesuon representing the sophomores, and lWarcella Drezewski and Louise Mifford representing the freshmen. I ii AG COUNCIL The Agricultural Council is composed of the outstanding members in Vocational Agricultural Work. Those eligible for membership to the Ag Council are as follows: Project winners, members of winning judging teams at State College F. F. A. week, Keystone Farmers, Keystone board members, and all officers of the F. F. A. Chapter. The council acts as a guiding hand for the other F. F. A. members. lts main purpose is to keep alive the spirit of cooperation so as toghaige a going organization. The Trinity Chapter has a membership of eighty-eight. Regular weekly meetings are held for the transaction of business. Following the business session, programs which are of educational value to the boys, are given. , The Trinity Chapter Was one of the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. Since its origin, it has been marked as an outstanding chapter in project Work, having taken first place in the state for the past four consecutive years. The advisers of the chapter at present are Mr. Blaine A. Beeghley and Mr. Thomas E. Ellvvood, who have proven themselves very capable leaders in agricultural Work. STUDENT PATROL t e T, lik 1 X .V ,. H. Riff,-, N 1' We, the Patrol Boys, who are under the direction of Mr. Hallam, take our position in the halls between regular class periods. Our job is to keep traflic moving, and since the war we do the work of auxiliary police. For our services we are issued Student Patrol emblems and arm bands. The following boys make up this year's Student Patrol: Kenneth Stewart, Paul Walker, Richard VanNuffelen, John Chupinsky, William Chalfant, James Barr, Robert Vvithrow, Albert Grim, Andrew Bartusiak, Carl Bigler, Don Cain, VVilliam Hull, Sam Scott, Bernard Ramsey, Frank Sikora and Frank lVlcClenathan. BEGINNING GIRLS' CHORUS i f The Beginning Girls' Chorus is a group composed chiefly of fresh- men and sophomores. The main function of this chorus is to introduce to its members some of the fundamentals of good choral singing, and some technical background of musical notation. The organization has also spent sometime on the history of music and appreciation of the classics. Rapid progress has been shown by the group and its promise of a brilliant future is assured and anticipated. GIRLS' CHORUS The Girls, Chorus has had a busy and interesting year. They per- formed a number of times in assembly, with a Christmas and Easter program. The highlight of the year came when the Girls' Chorus and Boys' Chorus united to give two radio programs over Station WJPA. The first program was called A Salute to the Allies, and consisted of songs from each of the Allied countries. Easter Was the theme of the second air show. Both were enthusiastically received by the public. Next year most of us will be back and We are looking forward to even greater heights. BOYS' CHORUS tiil The Boys' Chorus this year has advanced very rapidly under the instruction of Mr. Scott. We have sung various types of music, including spirituals, sacred songs, marches and dances, Ending some more dillicult than others. VVC like best to sing sacred songs. The Chorus sang When Day ls Done, Because, and From the Halls of Montezuma at the assembly in November. ln a Christmas assembly they sang, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and A Christmas Lullabyf' In March the Boys' Chorus and Girls' Chorus presented a radio program called Salute to the Allies. The program consisted of The Nightengalefl l'Country Gardens, Dear Land of Home, and A Chinese Lyric. O RC H EST RA N The orchestra this year has covered a Very extensive repertoire in its rehearsals. Public performances have been limited to small groups or ensembles from the orchestra which have plaved at churches and banquets throughout the year. The orchestra will hold the spotlight through Com- mencement and Baccalaureate. The group has enjoyed its endeavors Very thoroughly and those of us Who must leave will be reluctant to do so. A Prom Queenn was elected by the student body. She will be crowned at the junior-Senior Prom, May 21. We sincerely hope to continue our impressive May Day Ceremony as soon as conditions permit. Coach Decker constructed a fine team out of green material, but it did not reach its peak until the final game of the season. At this game it astonished the local football fans by outplaying our traditional rivals, VVashington High. Had it not been for some costly fumbles our boys might have pulled the upset of the year. But even if Wash-High won the game, 12-7, Trinity won the glory. Trinity also defeated Canonsburg, another traditional rival, 24-6, but we lost to our other arch rival, Mount Lebanon, 19-0. The members of the squad who will not return next season through induction in the armed services and graduation are: Lou Progar, fullbackg Joe Puskarich, end, Fred Bridges and Bill Hull guards, Frank Cornell, center, Joe Kern, quarterback, Anthony Progar, halfbackg Norman Rob- son, fullback, Pete Filius, guard, and Edward Bedillion, tackle. Each year upon attainment of a cer- tain number of points the girls are admitted into the club and receive a letter. This year the Club has sponsored many social activities. A skating party and a football dance, with the team as guests, were among them. The main event of the year Was the annual Football Banquet given in honor of the football team. The guest speaker was Mr. Grover, coach at East Washington High School. The Club is under the capable supervision of Miss Amba Kiblinger. BAND The band, although it suffered heavy losses through graduation and the armed services, continued its successful career through 1942-43. The season opened with the usual football performances, and the band put on some intricate and elaborate field maneuvers. Highspot of the foot- ball season came when a trip to lNlt. Lebanon was made by the band and majorettes. During the winter the band stayed together and spent the cold months in practising for a higher technical proficiency. A number of performances were made other than the football season. They included: a number of civic parades, a bond rally, and they appeared in a concert in Washington High School auditorium for the Victory Ex- position. Great things are expected from the band next year. BEGINNING BAND The Beginners Band consists almost wholly of freshmen. The people are all aspiring to permanent places in the senior band and are Working with diligence toward that end. These people have shown very definite progress and a very promising future. BASEBALL-1942 During the 1942 season, the Trinity baseball team played only seven games, Winning three, losing three, and tying one Totaling the scores for the season, We End that Trinity amassed 63 runs against her oppon ent's 49. This group is well represented in our armed forces of today with former supervisors Lt. James R. Clark and Lt. E. V. Ross, both of the U. S. Army. Also serving are senior cheerleaders, Cpl. Robert Dentzer of the U. S. Marines and Pvt. John Hunt of the U. S. Army. Graduating this year are: Mary Comito, Helen Szakal, With Kenneth Stewart and VVarren Stainbrook, who replaced Cpl. Robert Dentzer and Pvt. John Hunt. Left to carry on are the Juniors: Margaret Gajarsky, Vivian Beton, Trevor Beecham and Richard Meloy with the Sophomores: Corrine Fetherlin, Helen Engle, Glenn Dye and Kenneth Burns. It is the hope of the senior cheerleaders that the future Will bring a better coordinated team and a greater success will be realized. Our moments don't go on forever Qnly the memory stays. -HELEN CHESLOCK BASKETBALL The outstanding feature of the Trinity basketball season was the fact that many loyal Trinity fans attended each contest although game after game was lost. How- ever, even if We won only two games and lost two, this does not mean that the Hillers were a forgotten team in the Section IV race. The Hillers actually came closer to defeating VVaynesburg, the Section champs, than any other team in the divisiong and in both contests our rivals from Greene County were forced to rally in the second half to win by a narrow margin. The Hillers dropped both contests to Canonsburg, another arch rival, in overtime periodsg but they didn't fare so well with our intercity rivals, Wash-High. The Little Prexies won both contests by comfortable margins. Most of the credit for the spirited Hiller Quintet must be given to Coach Decker, for he had very little material to work with at the beginning of the season. This was because several of last year's regulars were unable to play due to inconveniences caused by the present world conflict. Unless Uncle Sam intervenes, the Hillcrs should have a successful season next year, for only one player will graduate out of approximately fifteen. He is Thomas Staf- ford, one of the team's mainstays. Kenny Adams was the leading scorer with 93 points Wasseloff was a close second, scoring 71.
