Superintendenfs Message ln the year of 1910 the first recorded attendance of the newly formed Trinity County High School num- bered l5 students. The school was first housed in the upper floor of the elementary school building. Later it was moved to another site located on the present school grounds. Enrollments paralleled the development of mining up to 1940 when the peak of mining operations reached its climax. Attendance numbered 168. The oncoming war brought a rapid decline in mining and the move- ment of people to the defense industries. ln 1944 the lowest ebb in attendance since 1926 was reached--49. The development of the lumber industry brought a resurge of population through 1954. The High School then numbered 220. The development of a second high school at Hayfork and the Trinity River Project gave another surge of population growth. ln 1956, 308 stu- dents attended school, and this year our peak enroll- ment has been 430. These facts, entwined with our memories of school friends, activities and achievements of the past, leave all of us with nostalgic memories and bright visions of the future. Perhaps this land of beauty will have its third and most far reaching growth from recreation and outdoor sports activities. It will not be surprising to see 700 to 1000 pupils attending high school in the county before the next decade passes. TOM PREECE
