DEDICRTION HE whole historical development of mankind is, and always has been, one gigantic heroic struggle for tl1e realization of a constantly higher and juster, and a socially and morally, more advanced freedom of the human personality, which by its high moral standard and its fine education would comprehend its duties to the authority of the state, to society as a whole, which could be disciplined and yet have an inner freedom of the spirit, which would show a spontaneous readiness to understand its social, national, and civic duties and at the same time not be subjected to any mechanical discipline or authority ....
