I Grammar QHadley or Goodwinj. Xenophon: Anabasis, four Books. Homer: Iliad, three Books, with Prosody. Prose Composition Clones or VVhite: the exercises in the first half of the bookj. History of Greece. D IThe translation of average passages, not previously read, from Xenophon and Homer, will be accepted as an alternative to the above-mentioned quantities in these authorsj ' ' LATIN . Grammar. Caesar: Gallic VVar, four Books. Virgil: Aeneid, six Books, with Prosody. Cicero: The Orations against Catiline, and that for the Poet Archias. Prose Composition : Translation into Latin of a passage of connected English nar- rative, based upon some passage in Caesars Gallic War. IRoman History: Cutlines, to the death of Marcus Aurelius. Ancient Geography. Candidates are also examined at sight upon average passages from Caesar's works, from Virgil's Aeneid and Ovid's Metamorphoses, and from Cicero's Orations. ' IVIATHEIVIATICS. I Arithmetic, including the Metric System. Algebra, through Radicals and Quadratic Equations, together with Proportion, Progression, and the Binomial Theorem. Plane Geometry. ' ENGLISH. Each candidate is required to Write a short English composition, correct in spell- ing, punctuation, grammar, division by paragraphs, and expression, upon, a subject announced at the time of the examination.
