hitnriul. Nt'l-1 xuorcllme IVY has the pleasure of appearing before the public in its capacity as mirror nl. college life. Should you recognize among its pages many a familiar engraving and organization, do not be disgusted. Rccollect that these organizations are the very stock-roots and parent-stem of the plant-that they are deeply embedded in the life of the college, and that it is from these she draws her nourishment and ability-to put forth new shoots and leaves, which shall bear pleasure and amusement Wherever these leaves may fall. , XYe have labored hard and earnestly at our task. We, have spared neither time nor money in collecting new cuts and material which might enable us to produce a successful and interest- ing IVY. If we fear the result, it is not from comparison with former IVY'S, but rather from apprehension that our work may fall below that high standard which has always characterized our class. ' I The past year has witnessed no very startling events in the history of the college. There have been no changes in the faculty, although at one time we were threatened with the loss of our president, but the entreaties of his friends and his own interest in the welfare of the college, spared us that misfortune. . The number of students is greater than ever before, and we feel authorized in asserting that a new era of growth and prosperity has dawned upon Trinity, which will increase as time goes on. In athletics we have more than held our own. Several college records were broken by thei athletic team of last year, and the history of this year's eleven is such that any college might point to with pride. The record of the base-ball team was something of a disappointment to the college, butuntil we behold the erection of our long delayed annex, we can hardly expect to compete with other college nines on anything like an equal footing. ' The saddest event of college life is saying good-bye, and it is with no exception to that rule that we make our farewells to the class of '89. ' - During three happy years of college life her members have been our constant companions and friends, sometimes our rivals but never our enemies. We bid them God speed and wish them the greatest prosperity and success in whatever careers they may choose. And now, with the hope that our friends will pardon our shortcomings, and that they will be able to read in these pages that which they alone attempt to delineate, a faithful representation '90, of college life at Trinity, we intrust the care of the IVY to the class of '9I. l5l
