Godhead of mystery and of grace, Yet loving Footwasher and baptized Son. We get caught up in necessary abstractions conceptions perspectives decisions. You are the Rock-and the fresh water's gush. You remain that Rock that followed Israel and us, The Lord our God. We live in a world that sees facts without focus, forces without goals. Lest we become noisy clouds and empty cisterns, or know desert dryness with confusion of spirit, draw us together to your well of renewal, where life springs up eternally. There is danger that we offer intake without nourishment for lives without vigor, or feel proud, or dejected in working alone. Then you give us again your family promise, Alpha and Omega, beginning and end: I will give to him that is athirst of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things. I will be his God, and he shall be my son. In this year of Attica and Vietnam, Chicago, Bengaladesh, Grant, incarnate Lord-Way, Truth and Life, that we and our students, with all your servants as we struggle for truth and your ways of life may be loving footwashers and compassionate cup-bearers, may know the healing of the nations and stand together one the work of our hands and total being at your feet, by the river of the water of life that proceeds from the throne of God and the Lamb.
