After many years of dissappointment and not even playing in the 84-85 season, the Wom- en of Troy can now proclaim that they are a major powerhouse in District 21. This year has been one accomplishment after another. The icing on the calse came when they won the NAIA District 21 State Championship. Upon winning the State Title, the Women of Troy traveled down to Cumberland College, Kentuclsy to play for a birth into the NAIA Cham- pionships held in Kansas City. Even though they lost the contest to the Lady Indians, they still received a hero's welcome bacls at Tri-State. Once arriving at l-lershy Hall a reception honor- ing the team was held. and The team members as well as the coaches were recognized by Athletic Director Stanley Butch Perchan. Also, the mayor of Angola, Gerald Lett, declared the vveels of March 14 as 'lWomen of Troy Week. While under the helm of Coach Cheryl Ken- nedy, the Women of Troy have experienced nothing but good times. Kennedy has improved Tri-State's record each year. After not having a season in 84-85, Kennedy in her first year, 85- 86 had a record of 11-10. ln her second year, the marls went to 17-18. And this year the record was 22-8, the best in women's baslsetball histo- ry at Tri-State. Once again, congradulations to the women of Troy on a successful year and good lucls in the years to come.
