Most of us. I dare say, neefl not worry much ahout mahogany desks for a long while. It miaht seem a hit unjust to ask one who has 1,-tltlippetl himself with an engineering edn- cation hy the great expenditure of time, money onfl effort, to start down almost at a laborious level. but the fact is we are not yet eneineere-- far from it XVe have merely prepared our- selves that we might LEARN and FOLLOW one ot' the hranches of engineering as a pro- fl'SSi0llill K'll2illPt'l'. XVe have yet to serve an apprenticeship and hy experience obtain that which will qualify us as engineersfcapable ot' lr-'n': entrusted with work upon which may rcst the very lives and fortunes of others. The lower we start and the more underlying the facts we uncover regarding our work during our apprenticeship. the more valuable we may consider ourselves and the higher we may ex- pcct to arise, Experienc-e is a hard and costly teacher fron- which we cannot escape though we have best prepared to meet by equipping ourselves with :1 modern education.
