“
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS ELBMIRT 1971 Trimble County High School Bedford, Kentucky 2 1971 is that very special year for us, the 1971 Graduating Class of Trimble County High School. Four years seemed an awfully long time when we were freshmen. During those next four years each Monday through Friday from eight-thirty until three, we lived in a little world all our own at T.C.H.S.. It hasn't always been easy. Often- times, we knocked ourselves out studying and taking tests. Lunch, though not always a gourmet's delight, was a time when we could relax and chat. Then, there were the frantic episodes in the gym lobby where we used up a little extra energy. At times, it looked like we might never become Seniors. 4 But, there have been those very special times also. The big pep rallies and the bonfire. School spirit. The mounting excitement before the big game. The pandemonium that broke out after a win. Or, the glum following a defeat. That long-awaited homecoming or prom with that certain someone. All are very dear to us. And so, as we attend our final year at T.C.H.S., each moment becomes a memory. In the pages that follow, we hope to present a small slice of that wonderful year, 1971. 5 Dedication The T.C.H.S. Senior Class of 1971 fondly dedicates this, the 1971 Elbmirt, to our class sponsor, Mr. J. W. Sachleben. For his cheerful attitude when we were feeling low, for his guidance and concern during trials and tribulations, we shall always be grateful. So we say, Thanks again, Mr. Sachleben. You’re all right.” To Sir, With Love Administration and Faculty JOE C. Peniston, Tony Jett, Larry Johnson, Kenny Barnes, Mike Wright, Steve Brown, Brad Griffith, Jim Cooper, Rodger Coombs, Asst, coach. Varsity In his second year as coach of the Trimble County Raiders, J. T. Peniston has created a winning spirit. Since Coach Peniston has been at Trimble, even as Junior Varsity coach, he has developed teams that have been feared throughout the 8th region. As head coach, and in what has been labeled as a rebuilding season, coach Peniston has already proved that a rebuilding year can be a winning one. 70 MANAGERS: Raymond Shepherd, Bobby Dunlap, and Jim Cooper. Tim Hargrove, shown as number 11 below, was the only junior to receive an award in last year’s annual basketball banquet. He received the award for most assists. This year Tim is averaging over 10 points a game and is again leading the Raiders in assists. IM tLE UWTY 72 73 The starting line-up for the Raiders was seldom consistent, which was a result of some great depth which we had this year. The guards Mark Cooper, Jim Duncan, Tim Hargrove, and Tim Liter were shifted in and out while Kenny Thornton held down the reserve position. For- wards Tony Jett, Steve Brown, and Mike Schmidt alternated, regularly, while Kenny Barnes held down the center position with Larry Johnson, Tony Gos- som, and Brad Griffith as fine reserves. BOTTOM ROW: Darrell Barnes, David Brown, Donnie Oakley, Mike Bray, Harry Webb. SECOND ROW: Gale liter, Dan- ny Sachleben, Terry Coghill, Gail Scott, Robin Scon. THIRD ROW: Steve Greene, Ty Bayne, Tony Gossom, Tony Jett, Kenny Thornton, Brad Griffith, coach Rodger Coombs. 77 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS: Charlene Ashby, Nancy Morris, Cathy Ross, Vedie Jackson, Betsy Welty, Diane Taylor. The Varsity Cheerleaders have been sponsored by Mrs. Frankie Sachleben for the past three years. She has done a fine job. Sheila Rowlett, Debbie Ginn, Teresa Hannon, Cheryl Gossom, Valerie Slocum. The Junior Varsity cheerlead- ers led the basketball team through a good season. For the first time we had cheerleaders for our foot- ball team. They supported them through a winning season. 82 After a long list of minor tragedies in the past, this hopefully will be an entirely different year for the Raider baseball team. Many of last years' boys are back and are determined to have a winning season. FIRST ROW: Jim Crafton, Steve Brown, Danny Bames, Ty Bayne, Tim Hargrove, Gene Harmon, Raymond Shepherd. SECOND ROW: Myron Tingle, Frankie Melvin, Jim Duncan, Tim Liter, Steve Teague, Barney Egerton, coach Vernon Craig. Football 87 FIRST ROW: Donnie Stethen, Jeff Slocum, Bobby Haney, Gary Taylor, Carroll Morris, Mike Callis, Greg Hughes, Ricky Rand, Roy Carter. SECOND ROW: Terry Mitchel, Jeff Tingle, Mike Dailey, Joe Perkinson, Fess Whitaker, Ricky Edds. Bobby Dunlap, Bobby Fugate, Mark Embs. THIRD ROW: Jim Hunt, Asst, Coach, Ricky Embs, Ricky Morgan, Jeff Teague, Cletus Gibson, Tony Jett, Terry Shelly, Jerry Bathes, Ronnie Jones, Ronald Cull, Rodger Coombs, Coach. In their last year of junior vanity competition the Raiders had another fine year. They were sparked by sophomore quarterback Tony Jett to a 3-3 won lost record. The leading yard gainers this year were Tony Jett, Ronnie Jones, Jeff Teague, and Ronald Cull, with Teague the leading runner. This excellent group of young football players are greatly looking forward to their first varsity year. 91 The United Nations 93 Trimble County High School Band Officers President - Steve Brown Vice-President - Jim Cooper Secretary - Betsy Welty Asst.
