Rothert has given the band members some ot his vast knowl- edge, and taught them to use it. The re- sult is a group of young musicians with amazing abilities and an even greater po- tential. An honor given the Band was an invi- tation to march in the Eastern Kentucky University Homecoming Parade. This was the organization’s first appearance in the new marching uniforms. BRENDA RICHMOND SHARON ROWLETT -TYPISTS DEADLINES! IN MEMORIAM The Senior class of 1970 would like to dedicalc this page to the men who have fought, and especially those who have died, in Vietnam. The following is a poem depicting much of the feelings of one of those such men. This poem was written by a former hippie (now deceased) who having been dratted realized what freedom was all about. Take a man put hint all alone. Put him 12.000 miles away from home Empty his heart of all but blood. Make him live in the sweat and blood. This is the life 1 have to live and why my soul to the devil 1 give. You “Peace Boys” pant from your easy chairs. But you don't know what it’s like over here. You have a ball without even trying While over here the men are dying. You burn your draft cards and march at dawn. Plant your flag on the White House lawn. You all want to ban the bomb You say there’s no real wars in tyieltuinf '• Use your (lags, your drugs, and have fun Then ret use to use your gun. There is nothing else for you to do And just think ... .I’m supposed to die for you. I’ll hate you till the dav I die. You made me hear my buddies cry. T heard them say “This one is dead It’s a large price he had to pav Not to live to see another day. He had the guts to fight and die He paid the price, but what did he buy? He bought your .lives by losing his. But who cares what a soldier gives? His wife does, and maybe his son. But they’re jusE about the only ones. Penniston in his first year as Head Coach proved himself capable of handling the job. Along with a fine man-to-man defense and a good zone, if needed, he developed a fine shooting team with his shuffle offense. The two together resulted in a winning season. The 110% award went to Tom Sibley, while Donnie Barnes captured the most valuable player award. 87 The Raiders were led to a fine season by Senior starters Donnie Barnes, Bar- ry Welty, and Tom Sibley. Jim Dun- can was the junior starter while Mike Schmidt represented the Sophomores. Mike Wright and Tim Hargrove were the number 6 7 men as they often entered the game early. A strong bench comprised of Bobby Hoskins, Steve Brown, and Kenny Barnes did their part in achieving a fine season. Barnes carried much of the scoring load. Welty quarterbacked the team while Duncan handled the ball. Sibley and Schmidt were the strong men on the boards. 89 against panthers TRIMBLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SCHEDULE 1969-70 NOVEMBER Sat. 15 - Oneida Inst Tue. 25 - St. Thomas DECEMBER Tue. 2 - Carroll Co....... The team consisted of grades 7-9, and if everything goes as planned the team will begin varsity play two years from now when the 9th grades become Juniors. If the team does as well as this years begin- ners, the NCKC can look out for some fine competition. 104 Tim Scott, Wayne Martin, Danny Stark, Tom Sibley. Robin Scott, Steve Brown, Jim Cooper, Coach Vernon Craig. Mark Cooper, and Bobby Par- ker. COACH, VERNON CRAIG I IT'S BEEN QUITE A YEAR... An effort was made to display this school year-just as it happened. We found it impossible to do that, fully. TCHS has taken on a new appearance this year. The best possible facilities were constructed w ith funds from the bond issue. Even physical education courses, freshman and ad- vanced, displayed study in depth of sports rules, in girls basketball and wrestling, for instance. In the older building this was not possible. Basketball retained its usual appeal with the Raider fans. Among the team’s laurels this year was win- ning the Runner-up trophy at the Henry County Invitational Tourney. TEAM TEACHING HISTORY A METHOD OF TEACHING IDEAL IN THEORY . .. 106 With a new school building this year, opportunity arose for a new and better method of teaching. The subjects involved are English and history with three teachers in each class. The team teachers are Nina Coffin, Dorothy Cropper and Mary Emma Pilow in English and Kenneth Cotton- gim, J. T. Peniston and Herbert Sparrow in history. ENGLISH This method involves a great transition which teach- ers must adapt to as well as the students. Team teaching acquaints students with larger group situations. This is vital since everyone will be con- fronted with this upon leaving high school. TEAM TEACHING The ability to specialize in areas where the teachers are more interested increases their effectiveness. One of the greatest disadvantages is the loss of personal contact with the students, but breaking up into smaller groups minimizes this problem to a great extent. The teachers must spend more time in preparation, because more opportunities to do more planning are essential with the larger groups. There’s no place in the world like T.C.H.S. We who are graduating walk into a tomorrow full of un- answered questions. T.C.H.S. has prepared us to confront these questions with greater insight. Most of all it’s made memories and created dreams. To those who will return in 1971, we wish all the luck in the world, profit by our mistakes-Build upon our successes— and leave TRIMBLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL with the pride it deserves. When you are old and gr; And nodding by the t' And slowly read, and Your eyes had once, and ay and full of sleep, ire. take down this book, dream of the soft look of their shadows deep. 110 GOOD LUCK CLASS OF 1970—JIM PIRTLE Bedford Standard Service Charles L. and G.
