% THE 1969 ELBMIRT A CHRONICLE OF THE GOOD SHIP TCHS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 1968-1969 AHOY, THERE We, the Senior Class of 1969, are proud to present the latest edition of the Elbmirt. We wish to present this in the manner of a voyage- twelve long years of sailing through school. Please bear with us; it should prove to be interesting. It has been a long and arduous voyage for us all. At times it was dilfieult to endure the dominating personalities of the officers of the ship (teachers). Many moments were spent considering mutiny. We arc forever indebted to those who sacrificed that we might advance in the ranks. At times, we were quite reluctant to at- tend, but after being thrashed, threaten- ed, begged, or bribed, we somehow made it. First, we extend our love to our parents-it was our parents who leveled things when we rocked the boat; our parents sounded reveille each morning, shook the hammock and got us to class. 4 Then—our teachers. These scalawags ATTLMPTTD to increase our educa- tional level. We are grateful to them for relinquishing their hours to prevent our being keelhauled. We hope that someday, some of their teaching will over- shadow our faults. Then, to the Captain of the Ship. To have been the Old Man of this tub for only three years, he has accomplished miracles. He got us our first prom, our first homecoming, our first student council—he has done more than his share to make our ship seaworthy. Now comes the thought of departure the time when it's anchors aweigh, hoist the mainsail, and push on into an uncharted sea. We are all Columbuses in the sense that we know our destina- tion is out there—the problem is find- ing it. Through life will come the tempests and storms of life. We pray that we may fall back on knowledge and wisdom gained in schooling. But whether the sailing be smooth, or our craft tossed about, we will always be proud to have been the 1969 GRADUATING CLASS OF TRIMBLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. 6 We, the Graduating Class of 1969, do respectfully and affectionately dedicate this edition of the Elbinirt to Mr. J. T. Peniston, our senior class sponsor. We are grateful to hint for all the assistance and moral support he has given us. These past years have been a success, and much credit is due to him for this. It is in this way, then, that we say, ‘Thank you, Mr. Peniston.” 7 TABLE. . . 1. INTRODUCTION 7. DEDICATION 8. TABLE OF CONTENTS 10. SUPERINTENDENT SCHOOLBOARD AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL 11. IN MEMORY OF On May 5, 1967, Becky Black died of cystic fibrosis. She was a sophomore at Trimble Coun- ty High School and would have graduated with our class this year. Though plagued with the disease all of her life she possessed a sweet dis- position and was always quick to laugh or smile. We will always treasure the memory of her friendship and her determination and will to live shall be an inspiration to us all. BEYOND THE SUNSET Should you go first and we remain, to walk the road alone. We’ll live in memories garden, dear, with happy days we’ve known. In spring We’ll wait for roses red, when faded, the lilacs blue. In early fall when brown leaves fall, We’ll catch a glimpse of you. Should you go first and we remain, for battles to be fought, Each thing you’ve touched along the way will be a hallowed spot. We'll hear your voice. We’ll see your smile, tho blindly we may grope. The memory of your helping hand will buoy us on with hope. Should you go first and we remain, one thing we’d have you do: Walk slowly down that long long path, for soon we’ll follow you. We want to know each step you take, so we may take the same. For someday down that lonely road, you’ll hear us call your name. 98 ALL SCHOOL PLAY “MEET ME IN ST. Being a novice, 1 shall attempt to explain the following pro- cess: The process of tearing leaves from their stalks is called stripp- ing. Sort of like undressing the tobacco, hence the name. This tobacco has been bulked. This does something to make it smoke smoother. This is called pressing tobacco. Its only worth is that it gives the freshmen something to do with their time while the seniors are taking a smoke break. And Jerry just ruins his tobacco, stripping with the wrong hand. That’s what's so funny. Ever watch a wrong-handed stripper. Turns you on. He’s probably laughing at this silly explanation. This is called a receiving line at a wedding. Those wads of to- bacco that they hold in their hands are what the tobac- co companies make big cigars out of. The object in the fore- ground is the beginning of a cigarette. 109 Dunlap lays it on the line. TRIMBLE COUNTY Delph tells it like it is. Mr. President, I think that The jacket is hard earned and worn with pride. Boots socks it to ’em. Neil Bryan is President of the Northern Federation, a very high distinction (clap, clap). Mr. Cor- dell grew up in Whitley City, near the Ky.-Tenn. border. He attended college at Kentucky Wesleyan, where he was captain of the team that won the NCAA Small College Championship two years in a row. Mr. Cordell was athletically outstanding, and he majored in basketball and ntinored in ping-pong, dancing, and shooting pool. He has been coaching for two years, spending last year at Calhoun County High. Mr. Cordell is an outstanding coach, and we are pleased to have him on the coaching staff. He lives in a trailer in the booming metropolis of Bedford with his wife Mary Lou and a small daugh- ter, Melissa. And we will not forget tho’ we be far, far away. To the hallow'’d Halls of Trimble every voice will bid farewell. And shimmer off in twilight like the old vesper bell. One day a hush will fall, the footsteps of us all will echo down the hall and disappear But as we sadly start our journeys far apart, a part of every heart will linger here In the sacred halls of Trimble where we’ve lived and learned to know That thro’ the years we’ll see you in the sweet afterglow. 145 For many of us, this year will be the last that we will stagger through ... or change classes in the snow, these doors in the morning... Now we look forward to alumni meetings, where we will gather to discuss old memories ... For, in a few short months, we will ride the buses home for the last time. 146 Yes, it is true; we will miss the classes.. . .. . and last but not least, the pep sessions, where we could express support of our team and get a little meanness out of our systems at the same time. --------------- wiii iiiiod iivi vvrupv.iuuvv uiiiiuui, anu iiupv ... . , , her new library is something to be proud of. We won t miss those +% ! yearbook meetings; though fun at first, this chore soon turned to drudgery. Lunch time is a period we cannot forget. This was a time that we could socialize and stuff our tummies at the same time. We are happy that Mr. Scott was able to arrange the lunch period so that the majority of the students could spend the majority of third period out of class (or was I supposed to say that). Yes, though we will remember the Halls of Trimble as being crowded during those two minute class changes... ... soon the halls will be vacant of the Seniors. T. C. H. S., you have been good to us; we arc the last class to graduate from this building, and hope to be remembered as the greatest and best-rounded class ever to attend school here. ’Tis time to say good-bye: it has been fun, and the years will not be forgotten. 148 Trimble County High School offers a scenic view of the surrounding countryside. Students may view the wonders of Mother Nature from their scats in the classrooms. Climactic changes influence the students greatly. For be it rain ... ... or snow, a majority of the students have to trek through the ele- ments to get from one class to the next. Alas, whether snow . .. ... or sun, we are happy to be a part of the student body of Trimble Coun- ty, and hope that someday, T. C. H. S. will be housed under one roof. 149 OSCAR C.
