TCHS will always be a part of our lives. L'ENVOI 1962 (With our apology to Rudyard Kipling) The Elbmirt's last page has been finished. The glue-pot is hollow and dry. The pix for each form have been counted, The scraps and the discard piled high. We can rest, and faith, do we need it— We shall sleep a whole day and nite thru Till the cries of our long-suffering parents Shall set us to work anew! Schoolmates, as you leaf thru the Elbmirt, We hope you find little to blame. Remember, we worked not for money Or grades, or favors, or fame. But just for the fun of the working So that you in your special nook Might see yourself as we see you In the 1962 yearbook. One might say the theme of our class night is passing through a gate—leaving behind the past, and going into something new, the future. This compares very well with our graduation. For we, as Seniors are about to say good-by and turn our backs on one kind of life—on a school life of studjM g and developing and are on the verge of entering into a life quite different, one of uncertainty where we arc expected to bear responsibility and in one sense of the word be independent. In looking back over our years in school, we sec some days in which every- thing was not peaceful. It seemed that some of our class meetings might turn into small riots. But, altogether wo a a class have gotten along-; remarkably well and tonight we arc all friends, with one accord. We'to received much training in these years some of which we’ve liked and some we've found more difficult. We've developed ourselves not only mentally and physically but also in a spiritual sncsc. It is of the upmost importance for a person to develop spiritually to have belief and faith in God. To learn to stand for what is right and to stand against that which is wrong. In doing this we can become more responsible adults in the future. Even though we have received this training, there arc times in the future when we. may slip and fall and make mistakes. When we do make these mistakesx you who arc older, be not quick to condemn us, but rather oncourage us and give us a helping-hand and at the same time do not bear all our responsibilities, but help us to grow and learn also. As Valedictorian, it ie- dy privilege to say farewell and thank those who have done so much for us. First, to the School Board members, we thank them for making it possible to attend this pchool here and doing those things which wo often know nothing about. For this we thank you. To our Principal and teachers, for doing their best to teach us when we were not to cooperative, we thank you and to all of those who do the little things which we arc not aware of we as a class thank you. Perhaps the best way for us to thank you would be for us tos ay that we will do all we can in the future to live up to your expectations. And try our best to be the kind of people you can be proud of. And try to make this world a better place to live. Mike Rowlett—1962 I am greatly honored this evening to have the opportunity to welcome you to our Class Night on behalf of the graduating class of 1962. Our exercises would be incomplete without.your presence and our parting from Trimble County High School would be sad without your good wishes. The assurance of your good wishes for our future success means much to us. Wo know that you have followed us and backed us throughout our high school career and wc arc truly grateful for it We will be needing help in the future as we have needed it in the past and we arc relying upon you for aid. We realize that our four years of studji have almost .ended and-we can truthfully say that it has been worth every minute of it. Wo will soon bo visitors like many of you instead of students. Although this may be'the end of study for some of us, it is certainly not the end of learning. Instruction ends in the school room, but education ends only with life. We have truly readhed a rewarding goal in life, but without your help we could never have achieved this goal. There have been many trials and snares that we have had to overcome, and with your help wo overcame them. Wo arc thanful that you have encouraged us to finish high school because in order to succeed in the modern age that we live in today, education is a vital factor, and everyone wants to be a success. We feel that a special guest is present tonight that we can not physically see. V,re have been attentively listening for. his knock, fearing that wo might fail to recognize him. This guest is Opportunity. Our future rests in his hands. When opportunity does knock, our education will lac essential to successfully answer his call. To our parents, wc the mcmbqrs of the graduating class extend a hearty welcome on this important night because it was- you who financially supported us and encouraged us when wc were downhearted. You have stood by us and advised us in time of trouble. You have given us your sympathy and understanding. Wo know that you too arc happy in our success. To our., principal, whoso patience wc have often tried and who has always been interested in the best for us, I bring greetings and thanks from the class. Wo know that you rejoice with ub over the completion of our task. To our superintendent, and the members of the board of education, wc bid a welcome to this ceremony in which you have played a definite foie. It has boon through your provision for eduaation that our graduation has been made possible We wclcanc the faculty and wish to express our appreciation for everything that you have done for us. It was bhr.ough your teaching and fuidancc that wc have learned. Wc welcome our friends and other relatives because wc know by your presence here tonight that you arc interested in us and wish us well as we start upon tho journey of life. There is one othrr person that we certainly cannot overlook or fail to give credit to. That person is God. He has provided for our needs and has helped us day by day in school. Hr has certainly been good to us and we owe Him much. Success is made much more enjoyable when it is shared with others. Wo wish , you to join in our happiness and we trust that each of you will enjoy our program tonight, not bccauso of its great dramatic valuo but because of your friendly and loving int rest in us. FARFWFEL TO ARMS A pale sun rose over the western horizion, it was an ordinary day in an ordinary community. Everyone acted as usual Saturday, May 26, 1962, cvcryono except hh young, hopeful, and perhaps, a little sad.graduates. For these, few, the world had dumped them out; they were on tho;Lr own in a cold curel world. It was over—the fun, the fellowship, the work, the excitement, and the trouble. We were face to face with truth. We haden't realized or even though about what it would be like. We had had so much fun together in those four short years. We played together, worker together, laughed together, cried, and in and out of trouble—TOGFTHFR. We had our times of disgust, but it never lasted long and even then they were forgotten because of all the fun and laughter we had. I remember the Senior trip, we had so much fun, not because of what we saw or did, but because we were together, but it was over. The Junior Play, the Senior Play, and all the excitement of the ball games, they’re gone too. Our plays may not have been sell outs or our record in ball, impressive, but we still had each other and the fellowship over weighed any losses, but that's behind us now. No more would we be called down for talking in class or for being in the hall. No one would say anything when we were giggling, they would just stare, not a word would they say, for we're adults now. This last year- has been so much fun. It seemed like everything we did turned into fup- Just being in class ment so much because most realized that This too shall pass away. Yes-, even our work on .the yearbook was over, those long hours were fun, but we wanted it to be the best one ever. We will look back on it in years to come and feel proud. We mado.,it, it came from our minds, so why shouldn't we feel proud. That's over, but we'll remember it, we'll remember it all as the most wonderful time of our life. It's hard to graduate, to just stop all the fun, all the friendships. This last year we had become so close, our friendships had multiplied by 20 fold, but now we go our separate ways, perhaps, never to meet again. Yes, our high school days are over but wr must remember that we have the future and that fururc will only br what we make it. Our parents, teachers, and friends have done their part, now it's our turn. What ever we do and wherovor we go, we will know we had a good start. No matter what life's work we may choose, be it ditch diggrr or' financier there is one thing to remember: Isn't it strange that princes and kings And clowns that caper in sawdust rings •And common folk like you and me Arc shapers of eternity. To each is given a bag of tools, A shapeloss mass, a book or rules. And each must make ere life is flown A stumbling block or a stepping'stone. We'll soon say farewell to TCHS and our friends, but they will not be forgotton. «ur last wish is that in the future we will maiK- our school and those who gave us our chance - ’ .x feel a sense of pride and achievement in us. Wo leave with one thing in mind—we are either a stumbling block or a stepping stone in someone FARFWFLL to arms 4 clsr’s life. To our school, cm- teachers, cur principal, our friends, and our p ents, we say Farewell and THANKS for everything and may God be with jrou an _ SENIORS 1962 ................ OUR MOMENTS TO HUtEMBER That first big day, we cane to school, And learned a lot of brand new rules, We will have these moments to remember. The study hall, and noisy fun, We thought the world was our very own, We will have these moments to remember. When autumn came, our Sophraeacsyear, We came right back with lots of cheer, We will have these moments to remember. We'd lost a few since our first year. But that didn't keep us from giving cheers, We will nave these moments to remember. Tho summer turns to winter and the present disappears. The laughter we weir glad to share will echo thru the years. When other nights and other days may ind us gone our sep'rate ways, We will have these moments to remember. As juniors we, made so many tours, From house to house, with our money-making lures, We will have these, moments to remember. The Junior Play the banquet too, ' We did ri ght well and gladly too. We will have these moments to remember. This last good year, we did our best. To enjoy all the good, and forget the rest. We will ave these moments to remember. As years go by, we'll look back and say. Those ♦lor! ous times, those wonderful days, We will h- ve these moments to remember. Tho' summer turns to winter and the present disappears. The-laughter we were glad to share will echo thiy the years When other nights and other days may find us gone our sep'rate ways, ft We will have these moments to remember. WILL friends, wo’•'•’vc called you to assemble here as a solemn duty, that you, the heirs of my respected client, the class of 1962, may hear her l st will and testament, which, as her legal advisor, wo-drev, as directed by her, immediately prior to her passing from our presence. It was the hope of tho class that this night might stand out in your memories of our class, but her last days werG so occupied with social engagements and other dates not so social, but of great importance to the future. Some of the faculty, especially those of the Chemistry, Typing, Shorthand, and Geometry fields, felt it necessary that we do as much work in tho last month of school as we had done in the first 32 weeks. This made plans rather difficult to asscmblo. May, we as well as our lamented client entreat that you receive you respective legacies in the spirit of unselfish friendship with which they were given? We shall greatly appreciate your courteous attention while this duly attested will is read. We, the class of 1962, in tho county of Trimble in the state of Kentucky, being in as good mental condition as usual, and in much better temper than usual, do hereby make this, our last will and testament, rendering void and of no avail any former will or wills that may h ve been previously mado by us during a period of temporary optimism. Although, being as psychologically complex as befits a Senior class, we consist of separate and distinct entities, or what have you, we are in such complete accord. We feel that our brilliant record and our unusual achievements will live after us, but, not wishing to take any chances, we suggest that a tablet, on which shall be inscribed our several names and a few of our most astounding deeds, be purchased and placed in the auditorium of the school in a position where it will strike the eye of all who enter. And in this manner do we dispose of our possessions: Item I: We give and bequeath, freely and without reservations or stipulations, to the Junior class, our rightful heirs, and to their heirs and assigns forever, our most important and valuable properties, our seif-satisfaction, our importance, and our wisdom, all of which we possess in enormous quantities, and we hope said gifts will be of use in overcoming their present inertia. Item H: We give and bequeath to the Junior Class our well-known nerve, which they will need next year, and all the examination questions wc have been given during the past year. We believe that an examination like Literature often repeats itself. The answers are not included of course. Item III: To the young and unsophisticated Freshmen we leave a map of the school building, so that they will not get lost and roam about in everybody's way looking for their class rooms. Item IV: It will be. noticed that, although wc have left bequests to the Junior class, soon to be Seniors, to the Sophomores, soon to be Juniors, and to those who will, in the fall, become Freshmen, wc have made no mention of the present Freshmen cl'iss.which will be known as the Sophomore class in a few months. Wo have left them nothing, because by that time their self-valuation will have attained such heights that nothing in our possession would bo regarded by them as worthy their distinction. WILL (Continued) Item V: To our dear old school building itself, we leave the peaceful quiet caused by our absence and any apple cores, wads of gun, or crunpled notes wo may have left about. Item VI: To our principal we give and bequeath a sense of relief that we have at last boon graduated, pleasant memories of our four years together, and a feeling of pride in any great deeds or noteworthy achievements that our future may contain, realizing that such glories—if any—will owe much to his example and counsel. Item VII: To our teachers, we hereby give, free from all inheritance luxury, or income tax, our entire store of knowledge From them it came and to them it should be returned, that others may be benefited by it as wo have been. Item VIII: To the Junior class we give, reluctantly but of necessity, our mantle of dignity. We realize that the class can never fill it but, since it is expected uf them, our advice is, Grin and Wear it. The smaller individual bequests are as follows: We, Delores Lawson and Terry Taylor will the right to walk at noon to Richard Taylor and Marilyn Perry. I, David Stevens, will ny Geometry book, which I have had for two years to Gayle Wright. We Dickie Snyder and Beery Welty, will our reserved seats in detention hall to Terry Rose and Ray Green. We, Mike Fox, Mike Rowlett, and Mike Mitchell, will our ability to find new interests on the Senior trip to the Junior boys.
