Principal 's Message In these days of space satellites and other scientific achievements, the wise admon- ishment of James Madison should hold special meaning and should afford guidepost orientation or direction to today's and tomorrow's high school graduates. This early leader of our nation told the people of his era: Knowledge will forever govern igno- rance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power that knowledge gives. Mr. Madison's statement was a plea to his fellow countrymen to gain all the know- ledge possible about all societal matters, to keep abreast with international politics and social developments, to be alert to those conditions which nurture and protect a democracy. He lived in the critical days of a nation; we too, are nationally in critical days. If this, the greatest of democracies, is to survive and to bloom, you, our stake in the world of tomorrow, must heed the exhortation of this statesman of the past. The process of gaining knowledge is a continuous one; it does not terminate with the mere granting of a diploma. The hope and the prayer of the faculty of this school is that you clearly realize this fact, and that you fully accept the responsibility and ini- tiative implied in the fact. With this in mind, we say to the class of '58: Bon Voyage! Sincerely, W. E. Ross

'Dedication Who advised us in and out of class? Who cooked hotdogs for us at foot- ball games? Who carried soda cases at basket- ball games? Who carved meat and acquired dish-pan hands at our firemans supper? Who cracked the whip when it came tore- port cards, dues, and little pink dogs? Who worried over the treasury with us? Who got tangled in crepepaper when we dec- orated for our dances? Who made the History review fun??? Who kept the bus waiting while he browsed in the Smithsonian Institute? Who sacrificed golf for this yearbook? Who saw us for our true worth, and brought out the best in us? Who else but - Mr. Parrow. We dedicate this, the 1958 Ursa Magna, to you.
