We have tried to give some idea of the most important activities of the past year. We hope as you look back through these pages, that they will always be a source of pleasant mem- ories, of happy and worthwhile experiences, achievements, and lasting friendships formed while at TVS. Sincerely, THE STAFF 'Dedication Who advised us in and out of class? Who cooked hotdogs for us at foot- ball games? Who carried soda cases at basket- ball games? Who carved meat and acquired dish-pan hands at our firemans supper? Who cracked the whip when it came tore- port cards, dues, and little pink dogs? Who worried over the treasury with us? Who got tangled in crepepaper when we dec- orated for our dances? Who made the History review fun??? Who kept the bus waiting while he browsed in the Smithsonian Institute? Who sacrificed golf for this yearbook? Who saw us for our true worth, and brought out the best in us? Who else but - Mr. Parrow. We dedicate this, the 1958 Ursa Magna, to you. Principal 's Message In these days of space satellites and other scientific achievements, the wise admon- ishment of James Madison should hold special meaning and should afford guidepost orientation or direction to today's and tomorrow's high school graduates. This early leader of our nation told the people of his era: Knowledge will forever govern igno- rance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power that knowledge gives. Mr. Madison's statement was a plea to his fellow countrymen to gain all the know- ledge possible about all societal matters, to keep abreast with international politics and social developments, to be alert to those conditions which nurture and protect a democracy. He lived in the critical days of a nation; we too, are nationally in critical days. If this, the greatest of democracies, is to survive and to bloom, you, our stake in the world of tomorrow, must heed the exhortation of this statesman of the past. The process of gaining knowledge is a continuous one; it does not terminate with the mere granting of a diploma. The hope and the prayer of the faculty of this school is that you clearly realize this fact, and that you fully accept the responsibility and ini- tiative implied in the fact. With this in mind, we say to the class of '58: Bon Voyage! Sincerely, W. E. The action takes place in the living room of the Gilbreth home in Montclair, New Jersey during the 1920's. The cast included nine men, seven women, and one Old English Sheep Dog. Margaret Marks and Don Short portrayed Mother and Dad; Linda Rubenzahl, the rebellious daugh- ter Anne; and Kathleen Doherty and Fred DuBois, the reminiscent sister and brother, Ernes- tine and Frank. Barbara Gillette and Joan Curry took the parts of the most mischievous of the girls, Martha and Lillian; and George Knox, that of Jackie the most mischievous boy. Bill Brenner played Bill Gilbreth, the brother who chaperoned Anne on every date. Fred and Dan, characterized by Bill Bardwell and Fred Nash, were the children who most often had to take the blame for the dog's misdeeds. Other important members of the cast were Dr. Burton, the family Doctor; Mrs. Fitzgerald, the housekeeper and practically a mem- ber of the family; Joe Scales the cheerleader who completely unnerved Mr. Gilbreth; Miss Brill, the snobbish psychologist; and Larry, Anne's beau. These were played by Jim Moreno, Ruth Kile, George Bertram, Pat Voss, and Ralph Spann, in that order. Last but not least our lovable dog was played by Tuffy de Voss. Ruthann Rexford and Ray Everett were our able Student Director and Stage Manager. THE BUNNY HOP KATE - RALPH. V. Cheerleaders {f.V. Basketball The Tri-Valley Bears started the season with high hopes of repeating last year's outstanding record. The Bears started the season with a loss to Narrowsburg. Then played a non-league game with Kerhonkson which was turned into victory. The Bears resumed league play with Jeffersonville but lost in a very close and exciting game. The boys from Tri-Valley then traveled to Eldred where they took another defeat. Roscoe visited the local boards and were beaten twice. This was the first league win. The next week was not as promising for the Bears who were trounced by Livingston Manor. The following week proved to be dis- heartening. The Red and Blue traveled to Callicon only to end up doing every- thing but eating the ball. Needless to say they were defeated. This was as far as the season had progressed at the time of this writing. Hopes still remain high for future basketball at T. V. C. S. The first team consisted of four Seniors; George Knox, Ralph Spann, Don Short, and George Bertram. Gene Walter, a promising Sophomore was the fifth man on the starting five. For the future Tri-Valley looks forward to the talents of Bill Holmes, Gerry Grey, Jim Krum, Charles O'Neil, and Bill Goldsmith, from the varsity and Clark Brown, George Spann, and Carl Allison, from the Junior Varsity squad. Tri-Valley started its season with high hopes, but lacking in experience. Throughout the year the Bears played a non-league game with Kerhonkson, and league games with Jeffersonville, Delaware Valley, Roscoe, and Livingston Manor, but though their courageous efforts did not go unnoticed by their coach, Wilfred Berger. Tri-Valley will suffer a great loss next year when they lose Seniors, George Bertram (Halfback), George Knox (Quarterback), Don Short (End), Captain Fred Nash (End), Richard Krum (Center), and William Bardwell. However, next year's team will have some experience in Juniors, Francis Distel and Philip West; Sophomores, Craig Duncan, Earl Coddington, and Bill Holmes; Freshmen, Chuck Hamilton, Bobby Finch, Hendri Samyn, John Krum, Lawrence Van Wagner, Jerry Grey, Johnny Neilson, and George Spann.
