ifw [WM Mpi i .. 1 ... ,.  isn,yr'n V’l ijoi: :VvS r WH The Tri-County Summit The summit is the highest peak on a mountain. It is the place every mountain climber wants to get to. In order to reach the summit the climber must work. He or she must use skills that have been learned and, my making mistakes, learn new skills. The climber must go on in spite of pain, weariness, and stebacks. What is the reward? To get to the top. To get above the crowd and see the beauty of the world, and to know you earned every breathtaking sight you see. Learning is no easy task, either. It is work. It is tiring. It can be painful, and it often has setbacks. To acheive, a student must overlook all of this. He or she must keep “climbing.” What is the reward? Knowledge. Knowledge that enables the student to question those who would take away the rights of an unaware population. Knowledge that puts the students above the crowd where he can see the breathtaking sights that only the enlightened mind can see. Does receiving a high school diploma mean you have reached The Summit? It means you have reached a summit. But as every good climber knows, there’s always another, more challenging peak to conquer. Good luck graduates. May you seek many Summits, and may you conquer them all. Cover Design: Michael Wood, Commercial Arts Deliverance With open doors and, open minds, this place of wisdom contains all kinds. The air is clear, we’ve finished our fourth and final year. To greet the world with knowing eyes, we have been delivered onto silver skies. We as a people must be heard, for our opinion will soon be learned. Our generation must realize, that we must live, grow and rise. The present time is just a dream, but when set free we all redeem. Our preparation has encumbered on us to use wisdom, This is the goal for all to attain. This note 1 give to the people of Eighty-Four, May they speak of us from shore to distant shore. by Scott Metcalf Dedication We, the Class of 1984, dedicate our yearbook to to all the athletic staff who helped us during our four years at Tri-County. These coaches put a lot of time, effort, and interest into our sports program. They took pride in their athletes and taught their athletes to have pride in themselves. They also imparted to the athletes a respect for fellow participants in athletic endeavors. We appreciate, in particular, the work done by Mr. Paul Trovato, the Athletic Director. Mr. Trovato works hard all year, every year, to organize and motivate the athletic program at Tri-County. He continually tries to interest many students in sports, so they may enjoy the rewards that this participation brings. We are grateful for his enthusiasm and dedication. We have learned a great deal from him. Mr. Trovato and all of our coaches have shown us leadership. We thank them for this, and will not soon forget the lessons they have taught us. Their hard work is often overlooked, yet without them education would grind to a halt. In addition to their required work, these staff members always seemed to have a smile to share, time to do one extra task, and an answer to every question. We would like to say thanks for everything. The team won 11 out of 12 meets, the most victories by a Tri- County sports team! This was the first year that the team competed in the Mayflower League. They proved they belonged by finishing second out of 11 league teams. The team also took home the Franklin Trophy for the fourth consecutive year, by defeating non-league rival Franklin High School. Individually the team had some stellar performers. Co-Captain Charlie Huidobro won eleven races. His 18 first place finishes over two seasons is a school record that should last a long time. Charlie, Co-Captain John Houlihan and Mike Houlihan were all named Mayflower League All-Stars. Craig Jordan and Steve Nolin were never far behind. The remaining team members also contributed greatly. Chris Auclair had the second best time for a freshman in the league. The supporting cast of Bob McCormick, Dennis Akroyd, Paul Wilson and Dave Killoy completed the nucleus that made this the best Cross-Country Team in the school’s history. Front: Co-Captain John Houlihan, Co-Captain Charlie Huidobro, Dennis Akroyd, Michael Houlihan Rear: Coach Randy Sloane, Craig Jordan, Steve Nolin, Paul Wilson, Dave Killoy, Chris Auclair, Bob McCormick, Asst. The soccer team completed its first season in the Mayflower League with a 3-12-1 record. Only five lettermen returned this year, so there were many new faces on the team. Mike Steinborn, Jeff Washer and Brian Dauphinee led the Cougars in scoring. Brian Nelson and Dave Yurek shared goal-keeping duties, making 75 saves between them on the season. The J.V. team posted a 1-1 record and many of these players should move up to the Varsity next year, adding more experience and depth to the team. 89 o 1983 Captains o t b The 1983 varsity Football Team began its first year in the Mayflower League on a high note with an initial victory against Old Colony High School. Although riding a tough streak through an extremely competitive league, the team in many of its games outgained its opponents by substantial margins, only being hurt by inexperience within this new league. Many positive accomplishments were set by this team including the record setting performance of Captain Steve Killoy with 210 yards in receptions during a game against one of the top teams in the league. The nomination of Joe Toranto as the M.V.P. in the Thanksgiving game was another of this team’s proud accomplishments. This year’s seniors are to be commended for their inspiration and leadership in the development of a team that never gave up. a 1 1 Front: M. LaFerrierre, G. Volpicelle, J. Smith, J. Gartman, J. The Intramural Volleyball Team was a new sport at Tri-County this year. The girls started out with little experience, but under the guidance of their coaches and with a lot of hard work, they managed to improve tremendously. This fact is proven by the record. As the season progressed, the girls’ record improved, both wins and scoring were increased in the latter part of the season. Volleyball was a fun and exciting sport for all the girls who participated. 93 Wmm B o s a s e t b a 1 1 The Boys’ Basketball Team featured thrilling surprises throughout the season. The team defeated schools that we had never beaten before. A victorious overtime game against Upper Cape generated thrills that players and spectators s hared together. Four out of the starting five players will graduate this year. They will be missed by everyone. Jeff Walls and Tom Healy have played on the team all four years. Competitiveness on the court is an outstanding feature of both of these students. Steve Killoy and Todd Allen provided a spark to the team through their dedication and ability to draw their teammates together. This group of players worked together throughout the season, demonstrating that people can grow and enjoy things when they are drawn together for a common purpose. 96 Front: D. Morton, R. Milano, G. The team was led continually by Most Valuable Player, Luann Cormier. With her ball handling and scoring ability, Luann was the heart of the team. Other key performers were senior, Candy Bryda, a four year starter and Erin Erickson, a high scoring Junior who led the team in scoring in two games. With all but one player returning, we are hoping for improvement in 1984-85. 98 nfmip 'WMVW Hit TOO 101 F a 1 1 S P o r t s B a n Q u e t The Fall Sports Banquet was held to honor the athletes who took part in Football, Boys’ Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country and Cheerleading. It is not an easy task to produce a yearbook. It requires a great deal of work and time. I would like to thank the yearbook staff for the time and work that they put into making this yearbook special. I owe a special thank you to Jodi Mathieu who spent many hours typing yearbook pages. I also want to thank Candy Bryda, Carol Schaaf, Tina Comisky and Leona Kaveny for their help with lay-out and for their ideas. Dennis Akroyd and Bruce Rawson did an excellent job of selling ads. Underclassmen Michelle Gregoir and Mandy Alsten were hard workers who came to nearly every yearbook meeting. The book would not have been completed without their help. I would also like to thank the Tri-County Staff for their cooperation in putting the yearbook together. They were most helpful in identifying students, helping with write-ups and countless other tasks. A yearbook is the product of the work of many people.
