Being our staff spon- sor for three years, many hours of your time have been devoted to the annual. Understanding our careless- ness and forgetfulness, you have helped us in moments of despair. By encouraging the students to develop their talents, you have made their lives more productive. Surely the Den Staff could not have been successful with- out your faithful instructions. 1'-v '-'rw PASSING IDEAS AND TEACHINGS ON - ails TO THE NEW GENERATION N J, Mr. Polk graduated from Central High School in Memphis and obtained a B.S. and M.A. degree from Memphis State University. He continued to further his education and has presently almost completed his work toward his doctorate from the University of Tennessee. l X X M .11-1' In l l fl I0 'iw OUR PRINCIPAL A well-known man to Trezevantites is Mr. L. R. Polk, We see him often-working out our prob- lems, leading us in assemblies, and guiding visi- tors through our now-famous school. Having been principal since the school's estab- lishment in 1960, Mr. Polk is iustly credited with its growth and progress. Before he began his role as principal of Trezevant, he had been a teacher, an athletic coach, and an elementary school prin- cipal. A man of many interests, Mr. Polk is a Mason, a member of Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Kappa, all principals' and teachers' associations, and attends Second Presbyterian Church. Despite his varied activities, Mr. Polk still finds ample time to devote to his wife, Dorothy, and their five children. - i if ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL fun' -I I .. I ilf Prior to his promotion to the office of assistant principal, Mr. Hamilton taught Industrial Arts, Math, Science, and was a Guidance Counselor. He further dis- played his interest in young people as sponsor of the Radio Club. Mr. Hamilton's qualifications for the de- manding task of being in charge of the administrative responsibilities of this of- fice stem from the B.S. and M.A. degrees he earned while at Memphis State Uni- versity. This year Trezevant added another first to its list. This was our first year with an assistant principal, Mr. John Hamilton. He works diligently handling all the neces- sary student disciplinary actions and var- ious other administrative duties. NJ 1 be Our secretaries, MRS. THELMA GRAVES and MRS. CHARLENE RUSHING, perform invaluable services for our school. Many of the tasks which are necessary to keep a school functioning are taken for granted. We can thank them for seeing that tests are duplicated, absentees are checked, and the necessary clerical work is done. Whatever the task, they do it well, ef- ficiently, and with a smile. These two diligently work throughout the day solving students' varied problems. A complete Ii- brary is located in their office containing the latest college catalogues, vocational aids, and standard- ized test information. 26 GUIDANCE A SCHOOL OF MANY ELEMENTS THINKING PERFORMING JOKING LEARNING S E N I O R C L A S S vice President-FREDDIE HOLLAND OFFICERS President-STEVE CORY Secretary-JANICE FORRESTER Lawrence Donald Anderson Carole Ann Archer Sybnlla Mane Barley Mary Krrshn Baker Helen Lee Ballow Rebecca Lee Beall Glenda Sheryl Blackard Linda Ann Bomar iw Brenda Gall Bedwell Barbara Ann Blckersfaff Lucinda Dell Bosnick Joe Allen Brown Kenneth Larry Brown Linda Faye Brown Sammle Inez Brown Van Scolf Caulk C ?7 1 Q? As they approached the stands, Jeff Shotwell read the names of the contestants and gave a brief biography of each. Then the thrilling moment arrived when Scarlet Cunningham crowned her successor, Barbara Haley. THE COURT The QUEEN and her court are, from left to right, Scarlet Cunningham, '65 Queen, Carol Archer, First Alternate, BARBARA HAL- EY, HOMECOMING QUEEN, Susan Parham, First Lady In Waiting and Marcia Gentry, Second Lady In Waiting. HOMECOMING CROWN WON BY BARBARA HALEY Presenting QUEEN BARBARA with roses is Travis Bowden, the '65-'66 Most Outstanding Athlete. At the crowning of Homecoming Queen, Barbara wore a light green gown with a bell shaped skirt trimmed with green buttons and a satin bow. Considering this a great honor, Barbara will hold this crown and title until the '67-'68 Homecoming game. This green eyed-brown haired queen is an active member of the student council and sec- retary of the F.H.A., and participates in all types of sports. 4 5 5 E . V, -b- I Y ' x 'F , . gs. fg ,LV ff.. Now the last flashbulb has popped, the hectic routine of layouts and identification has ceased, and the last deadline is finally finished. The staff has enjoyed working together on this publication, and we of the 1967 DEN are proud of our work and hope the spirit of Trezevant has been success- fully captured so that students will be happily reminded of the events that made 1966-67 the year it was. As the last sheet of copy goes to press, the 1967 DEN staff would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to the many people who have made this yearbook possible. lt is fitting that we first express our thanks to Miss Adams and Mrs. Arnold for their guidance, patience, and time. Their tireless efforts and encouragements were an indispensable factor in the editing of the book. The publication of the yearbook would not have been possible if it had not been for the understanding teachers who were lenient and thoughtful enough to cooperate with us. We especially appreciate their cooperation in letting us in- terrupt their classes in order to take pictures. All in all, the completion of the yearbook was due to the ioint effort of the faculty, student body, and the Den staff. We hope the results will be favorable to everyone. As the end of the school year draws near, we realize that it is a happy time for many, for others it is a time of thoughtful sadness. For the seniors the high- school years have ended-years of growing, learning, happiness, disappointment, excitement, tears, seriousness, hard work, and even fun. ln the future some of you will have your names recorded in history books like the ones you have iust left, others will have the rich, unrecorded experiences of everyday life, become strong Americans, and send their children to school in order to give them the won- derful memories they have had.
