A New Font Look AtCo ge, . . . FRESHMEN ORIENTATION This year Trevecca went all out in an effort to better prepare the new freshmen for college life. The directors of this program, Rick Ryding and Craig Keen, developed constructive activities to enrich the freshmen in all aspects of college life. Some of the events and activities that took place were freshmen study groups, a freshmen retreat, a scavenger hunt, and the traditional student mixer. All these events and more gave the freshmen a great advantage over the freshmen jitters. Top right: Christy and friend enjoy their afternoon at the freshmen retreat. Left: The transfer students take part in the talent contest at the freshmen talent show. FRESHMEN 15 FALL BLOCK PARTY This was the first Block Party at TNC. Its huge success has led Seniors to adopt this as one of their annual projects. Pioneer bar-b-qued chicken and burgers on the grill. They served this with all the fixin's of a great picnic. New Direction sang a great mixture of spiritual and popular secular music. Lots of activities were going on all around such as volleyball, frisbee, and football. ANNUAL CLUB RUSH The annual Club Rush sponsored by S.G.A. supplies the new students with a chance to take a look at the various clubs and organizations that Trevecca has to offer. Each participant in Club Rush sets up a table that displays their activities and service to the school and the community. This year the event was held outside on the ledge of the Jernigen Student Center. There were refreshments and fun for all the participants and the spectators. CIRCLE K HU-UHDDLE The 1988 Circle K 1st Semester Huddle was held early in the Fall Semester as a service to the student body. This event gave the students an opportunity to gather together and enjoy an evening of food, fun, and Rebel Without a Cause. With footballs and frisbees being tossed around and the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers being grilled, it is hard to value this event as anything less than a success. The speaker Rev. Bobby Milburn preached messages that touched everyone's heart and brought all these that attended closer together. New Direction did an excellent job of providing the music. They sang some of their songs from their concerts as well as some church camp favorites. One of the highlights of the weekend was the bon fire and hayride. After the hayride a brave few went up to the haunted house to tell ghost stories. The fun that weekend just never stopped. It was a growing experience for all. FALL RETREAT 23 β’ β’ β’ Fwkum Take, Pant U Rat Datfi FRESHMEN INAUGURAL DAYS The ceremony of initiating Freshman to the student body by Sophomores has always been a treasured tradition. The Freshman are assigned a Rat Master who picks out a lovely outfit for them to wear to lunch and dinner. The purpose of this function is to speed up the process of helping the Freshman feel like they belong. The bonds and friendships between the Freshman and Sophomores that form are what it is all about. The day was polished off by having communion in the Fine Arts auditorium. WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW TNC's version of this popular game show is always a lot of fun. Different clubs, classes, or just groups of friends enter teams and compete to win big bucks for their favorite charity. Civinettes who sponsor this event did some hilarious commercials in between games. The puzzles were tough, but the teams really got into it. There were lots of great prizes for the contestants and door prizes for the audience. The final round came down to Rotaract and Senior class. WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW 27 A NigttFi d WSk Fm Aid Tabd . . . CIRCLE K VARIETY SHOW This annual show sponsored by Circle K is a chance for all the undiscovered talent at TNC to show their stuff. Several clubs and organizations entered acts such as the Cheerleaders, Civinettes, Sigma, and Theta Chi. There were also some solo acts β Daniel Blair did his famous impressions and Shelley Love sang her rendition of I'll always love you. This charity event raised over $600. for the Guyana Mission Project. Top right: Daniel Blair and his friends entertain the audience. SIGMA SOCIETY FIFTY'S PARTY The Fifties party sponsored by Sigma Society was a neat-o trip back in time to the fifties. This charity event was designed to raise money for Y-CAP ministries as well as provide some fun for the students. There were tons of booths and games scattered throughout the room. Big Al's was serving up old-fashioned chocolate malts and burgers. Some of the highlights of the night were the musical acts, the pie eating contest, the costume contest, and the limbo stick. HALLOWEEN EVENTS rig Β«k: Halloween at TNC consists of several traditions: the Halloween party, the Halloween dinner, and trick-or-treat in the dorms. The Halloween party was sponsored by the Senior Class and was held at Cedars of Lebanon. It was a truly festive occasion. There was lots of great food catered by Whitt's Bar-b-que. The class officers planned most of the party games for everyone to play. The evening was topped off by a hayride. Students going door to door begging for candy is also a familiar sight in October. THETA CHI HOLLYWOOD SQUARES The Squares were filled with TNC's Stars. They were students from various clubs and organizations. The stars answered questions, and the contestants from the audience decided whether or not they were correct. Scott Adkins was the M.C. for the evening. Some of the highlights of the night were the hilarious goodies that were brought by Steve Fountain, Trev-Echoes editor. This event was held to raise funds for the Cornerstone Thurst. HOLLYWOOD SQUARES 37 SIGMA AND CMNNETTU PRESENTS m CHRISTMAS PARTY The All-School Christmas Party was great success this year. The event was once again sponsored by Civinnettes and Sigma. HRISTMAS PARTY FAMILY FEUD Family Feud was presented to the student body by the member of Civinettes. The contestants in the games were members from other clubs and classes. They included such chapels as the special AIDS lecture; the Joybells from Melmark; and many annual lecture series. Above: Students from the Melmark school for the handicapped presented a handbell choir. Left: Many of the chapel services left the students with the great need to grow in the Lord. CHAPELS 41 mm SOCIETY PRESENTS THE DA TING GAME This is a TNC version of the popular TV game show where one lucky person gets their choice of 3 mystery contestants. The crazy, spur of the moment answers keep the crowd laughing. Sigma was able to raise a nice sum of money for Warner Elementary as well as provide an evening of laughs for students. DATING GAME 43 TUB MUSIC DBPARTMBNT PRBSBNU . . . THE SPRING CONCERT The Spring Concert is an annual event sponsored by the Music Department. The songs that are performed are usually of a humorous nature. The event this year proved to continue in the tradition of fun for all. Above: The Ambassadors entertained us with many humorous songs. Center: Many students came out to watch their fellow students perform. PRTNG CONCERT 4 Left: Concert Choir joined the other performing groups in some songs of their own. SPRING CONCERT 45 A Β£w teb Tv Β£m OHm . . . CIRCLE K BLOOD DRIVE This year's blood drives proved to be more than just another service project for Circle K. With the help of the student body, faculty, and staff, Circle K and the American Red Cross were able to conduct a successful collection of over three hundred pints of blood. CRYSTAL LEWIS IN CONCERT The first concert of the year was sponsored by the Students Activities Committee. The entertainer was Crystal Lewis from Point Loma Nazarene University. All who attended had a great time. Center: Dana Hulse and Linda Johnson, members of SAC, helped in selling Crystal Lewis concert T-shirts and tapes. IN CONCERT FARRELL AMD FARRFLL The Students Activities Committee presented this concert for the students and other guests in McClurkan Auditorium. This dynamic husband and wife contemporary Christian music duo really let the praise fly. Top left: The crowd enjoyed the music the duo had to share. TRUTH IN CONCERT Truth was presented in concert by the Junior class. The concert was held at College Hill. As always Truth was spectacular. This is the one concert students wait for all year and they did not let us down. THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT PRESENTS . . . SHAKESPEARE DAY Shakespeare Day is presented annually by the English Department in appreciation of William Shakespeare. This event always proves to be fun for all those involved in the production and those who come out to watch. THE SPRING BLOCK PARTY The spring block party was sponsored by the Senior Class. The event was a complete success. The students had great food to eat and lots of games to play. Some of the games they played were volleyball and a friendly game of waterballoon tag. Above: Richelle thought that the watermellon was especially good. THE 1989 VALENTINES PAGEANT This years Valentines Pageant was a great success for everyone. The production of the event ran very smoothly and was very enter- taining. This year's queen and her court are: Joyce Barnett, Queen; Pam Shirley, 1st runner up; and Sara Stark, 2nd runner up. They worked hard together and were able to strengthen friendships as well as build new ones. Through all the hard times and frustration as well as the laughs, they made some great memories to keep. THE ALL XHOOL LOCK-IN The all school lockin was a chance for everyone to get together and play games and socialize. The trivia tournament was one of the big highlights of the evening. There was volleyball, basketball, and ra- quetball. It was an evening of fun for all. Center: The volleyball court was the hot spot of the evening. HOMECOMING 1988 This is the twentieth Homecoming at T.N.C. To celebrate, the junior class invited all the previous Homecoming queens to join in the coronation. The coronation took place Thursday, November 10, in Benson Auditorium. The coronation was well planned by the junior class officers and Dr. Melvin Welch. The masters of ceremony for the past 19 queens were Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Boone and for the 1988 court was junior class president, Paula Baggott, and officer, David Winchester. The 1988 Homecoming queen is Leigh Ann Smith, an education major from Nashville Tenn. She is the daughter of Alan and Carolyn Smith. Right: Leigh Ann with her parents, Alan and Carolyn Smith. Following behind them, were the class homecoming attendants including our 1988 Homecoming Queen LeighAnn Smith. An entourage of clubs and organizations clamored closely behind with their floats promoting Trevecca's theme of One Moment in Time.
