The first Trevecka College was opened in Hi econshire, Wales, by Rev. Howell Harris with the financial backing of Lady Hunting- don. The school was located at Trevecka, a tiny village in southern Wales. The college was opened in 1 768, with George Whitefield preaching the opening ser- mon. The first head of the college was the Rev. John Fletcher, a saintly and scholarly man. Many great preachers visited Trevecka from time to time — John Wesley, William Wil- liams, and Augustus Toplady, who wrote Rock of Ages. An active religious and aca- demic program was set up at the college, and young men were prepared to preach the glo- rious truth of saving and sanctifying grace. Trevecka College. 1768
