A MESSAGE The word Trevecca has its origin in the name Rebekah, who became the wife of Isaac. Therefore, Trevecca appropriately means the chosen of the Lord to become the Bride when Jesus returns for the Mar- riage Supper. The background for our college being named Trevecca was a school in Wales. This school was started on the Trevecca (Welch) Estate in 1767. John Fletcher was its first president, and John Wesley did the preaching in the opening school revival. Charles Wesley led the singing, using songs of his own composition. The Tre- fecca Estate was named for the daughter (Rebecca) of a prominent Welchman ap- proximately two hundred years prior to the opening of that school. The school was in operation four or five years ago and prob- ably is at the present time. The probable reason for Brother McClurkan choosing the name for his college in Nashville was the visit of Rev. G. Campbell Morgan and the feeling that the school in Wales had at one time been the type of institution that Brother McClurkan wanted his school to be. Trevecca ' s annual was named Darda in 1924. The meaning of the word was stated to be the pearl of wisdom. The name is found in I Kings 4:3 I . Darda was the name of a man who was considered among the four wisest men in his day and yet was not as wise as Solomon. I trust that Trevecca and its yearbook will ever measure up to the meaning of their names. A. B. MACKEY Our President ' s Home. Dr. and Mrs. A. B. Mackey and nephew, Gene
