To know her makes one turn And strive To Be, And pray to God Thy Will Be Done in Me. body and DARDA Staff of 1952-1953, dedicate this volume to MRS. L P. GRESHAM Dinner at the Greshams ' A favorite past-time DR. AND MRS. A. B. MACKEY Dr. Mackey, as president of Trevecca Nazarene Colleqe, has led throuqh the untrodden years in the life of the school. He has not been one to follow an easy path, but has blazed his own trail and led us to be the great Trevecca as we know her today. THE PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE The first Psalm teaches that the righteous man is like a tree planted by the rivers of water, and the unrighteous as the chaff which the wind driveth away. The Christian college should be the best agency in the world to develop and establish young people in the Kingdom of God, and to establish young people like trees planted by the rivers of water. It takes more than water to grow trees, but a tree will not grow without water. The living water which Jesus promises to give is necessary for Christian growth, but it will take more than the water of life to build a Christian character wiiich will produce an abundance of fruit. The farmer puts phosphorous in the soil to produce the grain, potassium to give the plants strength to hold up the fruit, and nitrogen to make the foliage with the rich color. The students and faculty of Trevecca are emphasizing at least four outstanding elements in the development of charac- ter: knowledge and skill as the basis for a fruitful life; faith and courage to give stability and endurance; and a good disposi- tion to get the attention of those who have not met the Christ who can give them, for the asking, a well of water springing up into everlasting life. MABEL ORNDOFF Head Resident— McKay Hall FRED W PARSONS DIetitlon THE CODNSELING PROGRAM The welfare and personal progress of fhe Individual sfudent Is fhe central purpose of our counseling progrann. This progrann rests squarely on the Christian principle of the great wor|-h of the Individual person and is moti- vated by faith in the possibility of every God-given personality being a growing person. The freshman counseling program has been carried on by six faculty counselors under the direction of the dean of students. The faculty member who directed the sessions of the small group Interviews was also the personal counselor for each student in this group. Much effective counseling — both formal and voluntary, has been done. Other faculty members have ac- cepted responsibility as general coun- selors with areas of specialization. The dormitory head residents have caught the spirit of the counseling program and have made an excellent contribu- tion. The dean of students In addition to being director of the various phases of the counseling program has found time to do a large amount of personal counseling. The president of the college, the dean of religion, the dean of arts and sciences, the registrar, the business manager and the high school principal give valuable guidance to our students in regard to many phases of college life. NOONDAY PRAYER MEETING 77 CHRISTIAN WORKERS The Christian Workers Association purposes to promote the kingdom of God at all opportune occasions and to enable the student to obtain practical experience and knowledge in Christian service.
