Command Master Chief Daniel R. Kemano United States Navy Gunners Mate Master Chief Daniel R. Kemano was born in Portland, Oregon on January 4, 1945. He joined the Naval Reserves in February 1962 while a Junior at John Rogers High School in Spokane, Washington. Master Chief Kemano com- pleted boot camp between his Junior and Senior year and then entered active duty in January, 1964 upon completion of high school. His initial assignment was to the Destroyer USS Sellers QDDG-11J where he served until November 1965 as a Boat- swainmate striker on Deck Force and Third Class Gunners Mate. He was then transferred to the Destroyer USS Strong QDD-758J where he served until April 1966. From April 1966 to November 1966, Master Chief Kemano attended class QCJ Gunnersmate ASROC School at Great Lakes Naval Training Center Illinois. Upon successful completion of this school, he reported to Destroyer USS Stickell QDD-888J where he served from November 1966 until December 1970. Master Chief Kemano then completed an extended sea tour from December 1970 through December 1973 on board the USS Puget Sound QAD-38J. . In December 1973 he reported to Fleet Maintenance As- sistance Group, Norfolk, Virginia as ships supervisor. In Feb- ruary 1977 he joined the precommissioning crew of USS Arthur W. Radford QDD-9681 serving aboard until January 1980. Prior to reporting as Command Master Chief, USS TREN- TONQLPD-14J, Master Chief Kemano served from January 1980 to November 1991 as Nuclear Weapons Training Team Instructor for the following commands, NWTG LANT TRA DIV, COMNAUSURFLANT N58 NWAT Team, COM- DESRON TEN and NAUSURFLANT RSG NWAT Team Nor- folk, Virginia. Master Chief Kemano's awards include the Navy Com- mendation Medal ftwo awardsj, Navy Achievement Medal ffour awardsj, Navy E Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal Qseven awardsj, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon fsecond awardj.
