Rear Admiral and Mrs. William B. WHALEY, USN, CRETI. ' 4 x E After high school he attended the United States Naval Academy where he was graduated in 1957. Commander WHALEY's initial assignmentwas with the USS ELDORADO KAGC-llj from 1957 until 1959. From 1959 to 1961, he served as Executive Officer aboard the USS PHOEBE CMSC-1995. During the subse- ll l 1 4 Q l V 1 quent two years he was with the Joint Staff, joint'Chiefs I-of Staff and Defense Intelligence Agency. ' Commander WHALEY served on the USS REVES CDFLG-245 from 1964 to 1966, and later became Execu- tive Officer on the USS OSBOURN QDD-8463. 'During this period the OSBOURN spent much time with rhg 7th Fleet off the coast of'Vietnam and was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal. Prior to coming to the TRENTON, Commander WHALEY, had been with the Naval Saftey Center in Norfolk, Virginia, Since reporting to Precom NORVA on 4 December 1970 and then to TRENTON with 55 members of the balance l crew on 12 February 1971, Commander WHALEY has sailed with TRENTON from her first transit from the Pacific Fleet to the Atlantic Fleet through her first Mediterranean deployment. Commander WHALEY resides at 937 Adelphi Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia with his wife, the former Ioan BOUSCAREN of Springfield, Maryland.
