The name of the game was amphibious landing. TRENTON, as a member of Amphibious Task Force 61 was primarily charged with the mission of putting her embarked marines and their equipment ashore and supporting them during inland operations. The TRENTON and her units, USS IWO JIMA with Task Force 61 staff, 34th Marine Amphibious Unit staff, HMM 263 Marine Helicopter Squadron, and KILO company, USS CHARLESTON with troops, supplies and assault craft, USS PENSACOLA with UDT personnel, assault craft and tanks, and USS BOULDER with marine vehicles, cause- ways and LVT's all combined to form a balanced and integrated amphibious landing force.
