TIGER’S PAW 1981 EDITION TRENTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT TRENTON, TEXAS TRADITION-LINKING TODAY WITH YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW 1981 is Trenton's 100th anniversary. The annual staff has selected the theme of TRADITION—LINKING TODAY WITH YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW to commemorate our historical heritage and to serve as a link between the past and future generations. We have worked diligently in compiling a yearbook that would be meaningful as a documentary of this year at THS and the 100th year of Trenton, and we thank Miss Rounsaville, Mr. Conger, and Mrs. Street for their dedicated assistance. 2 It is with pride in our work and our heritage that we present this edition of the Tiger’s Paw. 1981 mniNiSTRff low e faculty TRENTON ISD SCHOOL BOARD Standing: Vice-President—Roger Hinkle: President—Tom Smiley: Seated: Bonnie Donaghey; Dick Dockery: Grady Riley. Not Pictured: Secretary—Ricky Glasscock; Troy Jestis. SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE HOMER DANCER Students, Teachers, Parents, Friends of Trenton School: Each person is responsible, in some way, for the making of tomorrow better than today. He who contributes nothing toward improvement is either selfish or incapable. It is only natural that we should want to grow and develop in our various fields of interest and by doing so, we can continually look forward to a bright and happy tomorrow. By having such a spirit and attitude we will make a definite contribution toward bringing happiness to others as their tomorrows come and go. The person who gives freely of his time to seeing that others are made glad has evidently discovered the secret to real happiness and is the type of individual that is desired by most every community. We trust that your contacts and experiences in, through and with the school, have been a real benefit and inspiration to you and have helped you to better understand the real meaning and purpose of education. We, who have a place of responsibility with the school certainly want to contribute much toward making it a better school and through it, we hope to influence in a most pleasant manner, each person who passes our way. It is our desire to instill in each individual, the spirit of happiness and good will. Sincerely, Homer Dancer ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL MRS. Louis contributed many things of lasting value to our school. He maintained a high degree of academic excellence and took an active part in the leadership of many organizations. He was active in the Student Council and was its president his senior year. He served as president of his class for three of his high school years. He was a charter member of the Trenton Beta Club, and was its president his senior year. For two years he was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was voted The Most Intelligent. Most Likely to Succeed, The Most Outstanding Leader, and the 1979 Boys State Citizen. He competed in UIL on State level both his junior and senior years, and he was the valedictorian of his graduating class. All who knew Louis shared the feeling of a profound loss of a dear friend whose life had made us more aware of the meaning of excellence and whose death had made us acutely aware of the tragedy of an unfulfilled life. 18 FHA OFFICERS Membership in FHA for four years can provide learning experiences that are not available in any classroom situation. The FHAer is given many opportunities to grow and learn. She can develop leadership abilities, learn social graces, make new friends, meet interesting people, have new experiences, meet challenges, develop skills, learn to accept responsibilities, and become better homemakers and good citizens. I think FHA is a very special organization. Top row: Terri Holley. Susan Sealey. Denise Flores. Leslie Latimer. Paula Keeton, Sonya Cox. Bottom: Rhonda Cox, Leesa Anderson. Brenda Britton. FFA OFFICERS Learning to do Doing to learn Earning to live Living to serve— FFA—Leaders for the future Leadership is one of the best qualities that an organization may have. It is one quality that is seen often in the Trenton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. Each member has his or her own project. Many of the students participate in livestock shows and all of the members are engaged in agricultural pursuit through their projects which include livestock and crops. Its constitution states that the purpose shall be the promotion of the ideals of honesty, service and leadership among high school students, to reward meritorious achievement, and to encourage and assist students to continue their education. To be a member, a student must exhibit a worthy character; a good mentality, a creditable achievement, and a com- mendable attitude. Rhonda Cox, Secretary; Michael Dodson. Vice-President: Debbie Jones. Treasurer; Bobby Whitmire. President. STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS The Student Council is a student- centered organization, the purpose being, to foster democratic concepts in planning and education of school related beneficial activities. Each class is represented by elected council members whose efforts are directed toward programs and projects which elevate and enhance the academic environment while promoting student participation in policy and decision-making processes. The Student Council is a vital link between the faculty and student body and in this capacity their service is most valuable indeed. sJitf J .tVyuA Compliments of FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of TRENTON Todd Hinkle.
