r History On September l, 1940, thirteen little tots gathered together in Roorrf one soon after nine o'clock. Our teacher was Miss Edna Kraemer. With the exceptions of Elaine Heuberger and Clarence Bartness, those who were in the class were: Mary Ellen Kaufmann, Anita Fochtmann, Russell Henss, Marilene Kunz, Richard Schmitt, Robert Schoene, Arthur Trippel, Lois Ann Trippel, Marvin Wehrle, Bob Weir, Gary Dashney, Bob Foster, Thelma Meddows, and Louis Boxrud, the latter two being enrolled in January. Louis Boxrud left us in May of 1941. ln the second grade Elaine Heuberger and Clarence Bartness joined us. The next year being our third we went into Mrs. Wilma Schoene's room. There Dale Cook joined us in September and left in March to at- tend school in Michigan. The fourth grade was hard but we found extra time to make an Arabian movie and also one of Eskimo people. Gary Dashney moved to St. Louis that year. In grade five, we had Miss Alice Buehler for our teacher. Bob Foster moved to Collinsville at the end of the term, and Clarence Bartness moved to Korea. In the sixth grade Sally Niles joined us. That year we put on the play Taffy Ann . In May Sally Niles moved to Waupaca, Wisconsin and Bob Weir moved to Richmond Heights. ln grade seven, Miss Lucille Ginzel was our teacher, whom we all enjoyed having as our teacher. In January, Thelma Meddows left and moved to O'Fallon. In grade eight, we had a hard time learning science. Bob Weir joined us in December. During the year Arthur Trippel rounded out his second perfect 100's in the County Spelling Contest, and Elaine Heuberger placed fourth in the County Conservation Scrapbook Conte st. With a hard working crew which consists of the following, we set sail into ,high school: .Elaine Heuberger, Marilene Kunz, Mary Ellen Kaufmann Anita Fochtmann, Lois Ann Trippel, Bob Schoene,'Russell Henss, Bob Weir, Marvin Wehrle, Arthur Trippel, and Richard Schmitt. Here we were joined by James Ziesset, Jim Spihlman, Mary Clare Dermody and Bill Crepps. We certainly had fun being initiated that year. Miss Hannah Giese, Mrs. Leona Lovell, Mr. George Zarcoff and Mr. Dorries were our teachers. In our Junior year we worked hard on the Junior -Senior Banquet and Prom. This was the first year we were allowed to have a prom. Miss Bette Ruth Jones who was our sponsor helped us make it a success. Miss Hannah Giese, Miss Bette Jones, Mr. Donald Wehrle, and Mr. Dorries were our teachers. Bill Crepps quit school in January. In our Senior year which we have now concluded, we had the honor of being the upper-classmen. Thanks to the teachers whom we have men- tioned above and also to Mr. Dorries who was our principal and also the underclassmen, it was through them we enjoyed our high school days. 12
