Ten Years After - More tudents, More Teachers, More Electives, More Activities, More to Come It would help if you had the right page! Sister Arlene demonstrates the technique of proper study habits to her Religion I class. Ten years ago, September 5, 1962, Saint Anthony High School, though still not com- pleted, opened its doors, sporting an enroll- ment of 438 freshmen and sophomores and nineteen faculty members. Now ten years later, a fully accredited SA has nearly tripled its enrollment, boasting 1292 students and a faculty of sixty-one. Almost 2,000 seniors have been graduated from this school. Starting with purely academic subiects that first year, the course offerings included English, mathematics, history, science, lan- guages, and religion. However, through the years the curriculum has been expanded to provide preparation not only for the college- minded but also for the non-college minded student. The academic course includes two types of biology, chemistry, and physics, several courses in mathematics, and four years of foreign languages. This year superior and high average seniors had an opportunity to elect on a semester basis from any four courses in English: creative writing, modern literature, drama, and poetry. Of course, all students are required to follow the basic courses in religion, English, and history. Speed reading, via television, is also avail- able to all. Besides the traditional business subjects, courses in small business organization, sales- manship, and economics have been intro- duced. In 1969 a major change took place in the business curriculum with the beginning of the Co-operative Work Program, ena- bling seniors to divide their day between regular classes and work in the business world. Released time is also afforded those boys interested in mechanical skills as are spon- sored by the Mercer County Vocational Schools. Girls are also released for training in cosmetology and practical nursing. For students of artistic bend, fine art, com- mercial art, and music are provided. Also offered are courses in earth science, world cultures, home economics, mechanical draw- ing, radio and electricity, and driver educa- tion. Any teenager with the will to learn is bound to find satisfaction here.
