I I n u 4 ' - WORLD PREMIERE 1957 HELD IN BERWYN Yesterday the name of the famous city of Berwyn was broadcast around the world by Elmer Novelli when the new Bentley Cinema Center Just com pleted by Egidio D1Marcanton1o and Company was the scene of the World Premiere of December Decade the wonder picture written by Nancy Wise man and directed by Alfred Harbage and based on the epic poem Watch Fires in the Snow by Albert Waters Not only was the plot of the picture laid in this section but the leading parts of George Washington and Anthony Wayne were taken by Louis Umsted and Edwards Rhoad Some of the scenes were photographed at Valley Forge by cameraman Franklin Price The original forests were reproduced under the direction of Richard Colehower and the world s wild animals which made the tracks in the snow were loaned by the director of the Berwyn Zoological Gardens William Espenshade Ber wyn being the metropolis near the scene of the picture was chosen unani mously for the opening by a group of world travelers Lillian Hitchens lean Schmitt Barbara Magee Anna Gill Kathleen Sullivan and Mary lane Taylor according to a questionnaire sent out by Suzanne Patton and Congetta Bozzi private secretaries of Edward Beahm attorney for Starhght Studios A public holiday was declared by Harvey Cox mayor of Malvern that Garden Spot of America and Samuel Scarpone the newly elected mayor of Berwyn who showed his executive ability by getting the president of the Better Business Bureau Francis Ahn to offer a prize to the business place in Berwyn which was best decorated Some very original arrangements caused favorable comment in the Berwyn Blow printed by Harry Wrlght The male stars arrived on the Paoh Local on the new type train designed Stanley MacLeod They were welcomed by the Reverend Harry Hoehler and the Reverend Robert McKay who told them that the public needs more whole some pictures like December Decade While their words were being taken down by Anna Dorizio and Ida Fazzini a magnificent car loaned by the Eaggioli and D1Anton1o Auto Company and driven by Catherine Holliday drew up to the station The procession was headed by the Berwyn Brass Band led by Robert Rickards Next came the Tredyffrin Terrors the 1957 champion professional football team coached by Iohn Campos the high school football team led by athletic instructor Vernon Wright and the g1rl s hockey team led by Charlotte Reinhart physical education teacher he Beyer Fife and Drum Corps followed the stars as they drove slowly out Ber wyn Boulevard amid the cheers ot the populace The wide smiles of the school children who lined the route were testimony to the efficient work of the school dental hygienist Adele Golder The parade proceeded down the highway to the airport of the Walker Airline in Paoli to meet the leading lady Nancy Wagner She arrived in a super deluxe plane built from a new lighter than air plastic developed at the Greeley Hickey Chemical Plant at Charlestown City and piloted by Ioseph Thomas Among the delighted spectators were the women students of Tredyf frin University carefully chaperoned by their dean Florence Meurer and three professors Ioan Hahn Eleanor Kelley and Virginia Hampton A murmur of approval rippled through the crowd as the glamorous star emerged She was followed by her private secretary Iane Ramsay and her social secretary Irene McLaughlin She wore a glamorous creation designed by Louise Lannutti and exquisitely made in the Clarabunch Custom Dressmaking Salon Her amusing hat was designed by Lydia Evangehsta Hatrnaker to Hollywood 54 , , , . . . by William Kincaid and propelled by a new kind of gas discovered by , . , .
