'. t I BAND ORCHESTRA 59 YEAR BUCK STAFF EASTFRIN STAFF 2 nl -ffm-1 , I SO ATHLETICS 1 j E' A i Kggy A 1A f- -'f , ,., X 4. 2 Z .,- ,- 61 Once again our Pall sports entered into athletic history We are quite sure that our Football and Soccer Teams have established a fine record of achievement The Football team under the able coaching of Mr Smelgh and the captainship of Patsy D Ambrosia defeated our two arch rivals West Chester and Radnor Upper Merton also became a victim of the Bull dogs fangs Meanwhile Mr Whitcrafts Soccer team co'n pleted their season with six victories seven defeats and th ee ies The Basketball team coached by Mr Smeigh again proved to be one of the top flight teams in Section Three l was defeated four times two of which could be classed as upsets Again many characteristics stood out and proved the manifold purposes of athletics Graduation will deprive next year s team of five lettermen When this book went to press our Spring sports were just getting under way The Baseball team had two victories and no defeats Mr Hintze is looking forward to the best team in the history of the school The Golf team coached by Mr Smeigh got away to a bad start by suffering a I5 O defeat from Abington However we feel quite sure that they will establish a creditable record Both the Track team and the Tennis team have not yet entered into competition but they Track team and the Tennis team are coached by Mr Patchel and Mr Crouse respectively We are indebted to Thomas Skilton 35 for the pictures of the West Chester game wh1ch are shown in the Athletic Divider and also to the manager of the Berwyn Theater B P Conrad for the photo of the T E band in formation wh1ch is BUYS ATHLETICS shown in the Activities D1v1der GIRLS ATHLETICS Along with Fall came the opening of the hockey season Beatrice Costello was our very able captain Mrs Leaman not only coached us but encouraged us on to a successful season Our faculty sponsor was Mrs Mclflhaney and Ruth Mullen was our manager We were victorious in two of the five games played which shows that the girls cooperated well with their coach captain and teammates Our basketball team was captained by Mary Caniglia and Sarah Smurthwaite coached by Mrs Leaman and managed by Mereida Patton Four of the seven games played were victories and one a tie proving that the members of the team tried to have and succeeded in having a successful season Although four of our letter girls graduate this year we are looking forward to even a more successful season next year with many underclassmen whose playing this year gave promise of excellent team work next year Spring brought out the candidates or the tennis squad Emily Nassau was our very capable captain Again Mrs Leaman was our coach and Virginia Markle our manager The game of badminton which was introduced last year was again participated in but only intramural games were played 62 , .
