Five Years in the Future Returning to Memphis for the 'I959 Cotton Carnival, we catch glimpses of '54, scattered far and wide. While in California we saw PAT DUGAN, who plans to return home in the spring when she finishes her latest picture with FRANK CCLARKJ QUINN, produced and directed by the world famous ROBERT TEMPLETON and JIMMY HADAWAY. And would you ever believe JOHNNY CALD- WELL would be worth S40,000,000? Why, he is the biggest oil man in Texas! We saw HORACE BLACKMAN and WANDA MOORE, who are now married, in Oklahoma, where Horace owns his own filling station. Finally, we reach West Memphis and as we pass the Joy, the names on the bill-board BEVERLY HOOKS, JOYCE VIA, JEAN KING, JUNE KING, IACKIE CIRK, and ANN McNEIL flash before our eyes. Ah! Memphis at last. Passing by Ellis Auditorium, we near a commotion and rushing over to the crowd whom should we see but HARRY PHILIPS, GRACE RANDLE, SUE HEIDEL, JAMES BYRD, BILLY LIGON, JIMMY MOSS, DOLLY DAWKINS, ELROY CHAILLE and DARIUS OLHAUSEN. The center of attraction is GENE MAHARRE and his now famous band consisting of BILL SIDOWEY, CAIUS DODD, JOHN HAMM, BILL REEDER, KELLY TOWNSEND and LEROY ATCHLEY, starring WARNER LASTER with his trumpet from heaven and WALTER GEORGE, male vo- calist. Back to the car we chase, and drive to LEWIS HEL- TON'S, Memphis' newest hotel. LARRY MILLER all decked out in a black and gold uniform rushes to open the door. After registering with room clerk HAROLD MYERS, we are met by an array of bell boys, MILLARD TAPP, LEE MILLER, JEWEL PRUITT, ALLAN BARNHARDT, BOBBY LUSCHEN and ALVIN IVERSON, who rushed forward to take our luggage. Turning we see, standing in the doors of their elevators, ANN MCGREW, JOYCE HALL, WANDA MARTIN and CAROLYN TRACEY. Choosing Anne's elevator, we are whisked to the eleventh floor, only to come face to face with BARBARA CHOUSEJ and RICHARD COLLINS, now happily married. In our rooms at last we sink down into an easy chair and reach for the Commercial Appeal, now edited by BOB McDANIEL. In BILL FLACK'S column we learn that JIM ANDERSON has relieved General Ridgeway in Europe. With him are KEN WESTRA, JIMMY CRAIN, ROBERT HENRY, BAKER DENNEN, FRED BARROW, RALPH FREEMAN and JERRY HAILEY. Turning to the sports section, we see that JOE WEEKS has won the tenth series for the Yankees with the help of BILL INGRAM, BOBBY TOWNSEND AND BOBBY OWEN. Glancing through the society section, we read that JOYCE BROOKS, BARBARA JOHNSON, DOT JONES, ELVORIE PERRY, DAISY GILL and MARY ALICE BREWER are going to New York to enter the WAKEFIELD AND COOLIDGE Modeling School. After dinner we leave enmasse to take in the colorful midway. The first show we come to is the Freaks. A familiar voice falls on our ear. Why, it's EDMOND RAN- DOLPH, the barker. Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, see the biggest little show on earth bringing before your very eyes LAMAR FIKE, the human skeleton and toddling along behind him you see ROBERT HYDE, smallest midget alive, BILLY MOORE, the sword swallower and lifting the unbelievable weight of 650 pounds in each hand you see ROBERT WHALEY, the worId's strongest man. Seeing MARYLYNN SHIVLEY, SHIRLEY JAGGERS, JIMMY LEA WINCHESTER and MAXIE KUTZ come out laughing, we buy a ticket from JOE WILLIAMS to see what this is all about! Next, we stop to see the Frolic's of '59 with the gala chorus consisting of LINDA COLE, GLENDA BRADFORD, ELIZABETH RODGERS, CHARLENE BEARD, PAT MCNEAL and ELINOR SMITH. Wait! We can't leave until we've seen the daring dance of the Nymphs done by MARILYN GAL- LASPY, MAMIE FREEMAN, JANICE MCDONALD, and JOAN LAWSON. Well, look who's sitting next to us with their hat over their faces JIMMY ROACH, DUCK GREEN, JIMMY BRADFORD and JIMMY OWEN. Strolling on down are midway, we spy VERA CREAI and ERNIE LEE with MARJORIE KSMITHI and LARRY HOUSE, the latter happily married. And look whose with them-Larry Jr., who is already starting at Sandra Bruce's Kindergarten. Standing and talking with our old friends, we accumulate an ear full of news. Can this be? Yes, JOYCE GOEBEL has sued BILL YOUNG for breach of promise. Wonder what this could be about! Hmmm! What's this? Looks like a fortune teller. Out of curi- osity, we slipped into the little red and white tent to dis- cover JEAN BARBER peering over her crystal ball. Waiting sheepishly to see what the future holds for them are BOB BERRY, JEANNETTE KELLUM, TEDDY CAMPBELL, BETTY BARNES, JOE BURGESS, BARBARA and EMMETT SINGLETON, ROBERT TRUSS and MYRA JONES. My Goodness! If it isn't JETTIE BOWEN and ALBERT RUSHTON. Seems as if they have been to a football game between PoDunk Jailbirds where BOB ATKINSON is coach, and The Whosiers where PETE POWELL is head coach. lncidently, Pete's team is made up of JAMES KENNEDY, JOHN MOORE, FRANK HILL, DON SAVAGE, JIMMY BRANNON, ARTHUR WAYMIRE, PAT FLAHERTY, JAMES BROWN, EDDIE MORTON, JIMMY CATHY and BOBBY SMITH. Continuing on down the midway, we hear a shrill scream-PEGGY DUKE has fallen off the merry-go-round. As DON WOOD and FRED SMITH carry her to the first aid tent, we spy the name, DR. WILLIAM YAGER, above the tent flap. Glancing in we see GENIE SCOTT and DOROTHY ZINCK, now registered nurses with madman BUDDY WINTKER, the ambulance driver. th i rty-three
