Texan Band Enters All-Region, . JW VV . ' Members of the Travis Texan 'A' Band are CL. to R.D FRONT ROW: L. Gay, R. Starks, R. Brown, B. Keel- ing, D. Galanos, S. Freewith. SECOND ROW: J. McFadden, T. Streety, R. Meeks, J. Rodgers, T. Pollmar, V. Womack, J. Briggle, G. Golden, H. The Travis Jr. High 'A' Band is composed of '71 students who have had at least two years of experi- ence in the band program . They perform at all home ninth-grade district football games, at a Christmas concert, for the PTA, on tour of area county schools, and for the formal spring concert in May. Bandsmen individually compete in the high school division of Region IV and for the All-Region Band and solo and ensemble contests held in Commerce. Primarily a training unit for the high school band, the 'A' Band offers varied experiences to the students allowing total involvement and understanding of music. exan ' 64 E I Myers, R. Lacy. Weems, J. Aleshire, H. Moore, R. Tuttle. The 'B' Band is composed of students with no pre- vious experience in band . They spend their first year learning all basic concepts of music theory and learning to assemble, play, and properly care for their instruments. The Stage Band was begun this year to give the more talented musicians an opportunity to experi- ence other forms of music than the traditional band literature. It is composed of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, trap drums, elec- tric guitar, and electric bass. It competed as a mixed wind ensemble in the solo and ensemble con- test held at East Texas State University in Com- merce.
