'House of Bamboo, Is Theme For Twirp Twirl The theme for the annual backwards dance was The House of Bamboo. On Blossom Day, to welcome the spring, the girls decorated schoolrooms with flowers and donned spring clothes for the first time this year. Another event sponsored by the GAA was the annual Tranquillity Invitational Tennis , Tournament. To finance a Spring Playday of minor sports in which five other schools participated, the Girl's Athletic Association had cupcake sales and a pie social and sold emblem necklaces. Tranquillity girls also attended playdays given by other schools in their league - Washington Union, Kerman, River- dale, Coruthers and Central. Initiation for the first semester was performed on on overnight camp-out ot Morchini's Beach, but second semester candidates were initiated in the gym after school. For the first time in the history of the local GAA, a member accumulated 500 points during her four years of high school. This accomplishment, achieved by Diane Smithson, was rewarded with a white sweater, the highest award given in GAA. Future Business Leaders of America purchased pins which were presented to outstanding students in typing, shorthand, office practice and bookkeeping. As ci means of making money they sponsored the movie, Johnny Dark. Club delegates attended regional conferences in Fresno and Delano and the state convention at Riverside. Club degree pins were bought to be given out on a semester basis. Students with the highest number ot points in each degree were given prizes at the end ot the year.
