Class History The 1958 senior class entered high school as freshmen in 1954 with thirty-two members. Only one member, Richard Valenta, joined the class that year. The teachers put on pressure with their rounds of study, and soon we showed signs of talent. The officers of the class were: President, Cherie Knoopg vice-president, Larry Nation, secretary-treasurer, Glen Jordan. The winner of the American Legion medal that year was Gary Karr. An unforgettable day was our initiation by the sophomores in which the usual ceremonies of bowing and shining shoes were reuired. We came to school for our sophomore year ready for a good time. We were still fresh in high school, but we were learning. Our class gained one new member that year, Viola Kuhn, so we were now thirty- three. Glen Jordan was chosen president, Larry Nation vice-president, and Terry Edwards secretary- treasurer. The American Legion medal winner was Elizabeth Freeman. And how happy were the golden days of our junior year! This year had hardly begun when we found ourselves caught in a cycle of wonderful activities. Filling the honorary positions were Gary Karr, presi- dentg Suzanne Thomas, vice-president, and Sandy Nevills, secretary-treasurer. Gary Karr was the winner of the eleventh-twelfth grade division of the American Legion medal contest. Class rings were ordered and received and a very successful magazine sale was conducted. The latter was climaxed by a party. Our class play, Let Me Out Of Here, proved to be a success as did the J unior-Senior Prom. The Prom was held at Black's Tea Room in Waterloo with Parisienne Paradise as our theme. This year the class was enlarged by four new members-Shirley Haraldson, Gary Plogmann, Patty Morgan and Sandy N evills. Our senior class officers were: Jim Ralls, president, Kathy Lund, vice-president, Cherie Knoop, secretary-treasurer. Patty Morgan was our class reporter. Suzanne Thomas and Richard Valenta rep- resented us on the Student Council, and Gary Karr was editor-in-chief of the annual. The activities that flourished during this year will forever remain memorable. We won't forget the Homecoming game and our Homecoming queen, Kathy Lund, whose attendants were Darlene Latting and Suzanne Thomas. Going to Cedar Rapids for our class pictures was certainly fun, as also was decorating the high school for Christmas, which has long been a senior activity. We enjoyed preparing our class play, The Skeleton Walks, under the direction of Mr. Churchill. We owe a very enjoyable evening to the juniors when they entertained us at the J unior-Senior Promg it was held this year out at the golf club- house, and the theme of the party was Out of This World. All in all we have enjoyed our high school years very much, and I think all of us hate leaving good old Traer High. 6
