'S do QT just as this year has been different from past years, so is the Tower Ecbos different from previous Towson yearbooks. just as this year has been filled with unusual events, so is this Tower Echoes unusual in format and content. On the pages which follow are the events and activities which have made this year a distinctive one. In recording the memorable events of this year, Tower Erbovs has employed new techniques and introduced new features never before seen in Tonw Echoes. This unique format and presenta- tion of content assures the l9YS T0ll't'D' Echoes a place of distinction among Towson yearbooks. The end result, the product, the record of these events has emerged more than equal to the overwhelming task of presenting the events of a d'isli11r'fil'r' year.

x f al, Colored by natural forces which caused post- ponement or cancellation of many activities and annual events, the 1957-S8 school year has been a year to remember. The autumn Asian influenza epidemic which emptied the dormitories, and the phenomenal snowfalls of February and March which closed the college have given this year a notoriety unmatched by previous ones. To the Class of1958 Al sense of truth, of balance' and a lack of fear , C. .. A sense of fruth, of balance and a lack of fear . . . This is a chronicleg a chronicle by and of the Class of 1958-and of a good bit more: of the college at which you have spent four of the best years of your life. Since it is a chronicle, it is a history, since it is a book, it is something perma- nent. As a chronicle, this book is a definite part of the record of an institution, as a document, it will someday be used as a reference. As a thing of permanence, it shows thoughts, facts, customs, and errors for you to behold as long as even only one copy exists. As with this book, so be it then with the lives of the people who have written it, and who have been written about. As with this book, so be it also with the per- petuation of your deeds, joys, sorrows, defeats, victories, and errors. These are forever in print also. Should we omit your sorrows, errors, and the like? No! This would not be true life, to avoid error would be impossible, to write in constant fear of error would be destructive, killing. A sense of truth, of balance, and a lack of fear-such is life, true lifeg this has been recorded. Men and women of Towson, may you exem- plify in full measure the hopes and the ideals for which you have striven.
