Confidently the Owls looked forward to the St. Martin's rematch. St. Martin's, 247 Towson Catholic, 18 The St. Martin's win over Towson Cath- olic was looked upon in scholastic circles as the biggest upset in the league. Con- fidently expecting to drift to an easy vic- tory, the Catholics were amazed to run into a St. Martin's team that was sud- denly tough. The game started out much ' ' ver as suspected with Hoeck plunging o from the three to open the bidding at six. I eemingly no time, Scrivener had tossed n s to Anderson to account for another score. d Then St. Martin's got tough and crosse the Catholic goal line three times by half- time to head us l8 to l2. 'sift - F- P' 4. if Coach Al Barthelme explains a complicated lateral play which he first used successfully against St. Joe Residents. Even water boy, Larry Donohue, manages to concentrate momentarily, as Barthelme shows pattern of play on the ground. Boys' Latin, 52, Towson Catholic, 20 St. Joe's Day gaime was called off on account of impossible playing conditions. ln the next game against Boys' Latin the Catholic offense started fast with Chick Scrivener lobbing a 45 yard pass to Bernie Anderson in the end zone. Vaughan added the extra point. ln the middle of the second quarter the Latin attack started to roll and amassed 26 points by halftime. ln the final half, O'ConneIl came through for a touchdown on a pass from Scrivener. The last play of the game Bill Haverstick hauled down a desperate Scrivener pass to score, but the vaunted Latin attack had done its work well, amassing 26 points a half to hand the Catholics their toughest after- noon of the season. The squad dug in and determined to do a job on St. Joe Residents. St. Joe Residents, 56: Towson Catholic, 26 On a sloppy field at St. Joe, the Owls put in a pretty rough afternoon. The resi- dent attack had attained its peek while the Owls were struggling along on an off dav. Call for water: Owl center, Hogan, calls time out. On the ground, left to right: Owl right end, LaHatte, fullback, O'Con- nell, center, Hogan, halfback, Williams, and waterboy, Lawrence Donohue. Chick Scnivener and his magic arm get one away to Archie Vaughan. This was a familiar sight at mid- season, since Coach Al Barthelme spread his offense in order to take better advantage of a hopped up aerial attack. St. Joe's Day, 425 Towson Catholic, 26 On the bitter note of defeat the Cath- olics ended their first year of organized football in the Latin ruled six-man league. The best passing combination of the league fScrivener to Andersonl supplied almost entirely the Towson Catholic scor- ing punch amassing l8 points. Vaughan ran a kick-off back for the final Owl pointer and then added two points from placement. But St, Joe's Gaels proved a little too much for the tiring Catholics.
