Cir- cumstances seeim to be propitious this year for the ringing of the ch' imes, so the Lords and Ladies of the Kingdom, and even the King himself, will make an offering at the altar. As they sit in the shadows of the hut praying, a faint light begins to glow be- hind them, the back wall of the hut van- ishes, and in its place appears a vision of the Cathedral altar. One by one the people offer their gifts to the priest, but still the Chimes fail to ring. Holger, at the command of the Old Woman, takes ' out his few shining pennies and offers f them to the Priest.
