HOWARD E. YULE AB Hamilton Collegeg M.A., Middlebury College . . . Assistant Headmaster . . . Head of Upper School . . . French College Counselor . . . Tower Hill since 1950. To the Class of 1960: The class of 760 entered the Upper School the same year 1 arrived at Tower Hill. Since then from Serf to Elsie,,, from Twink to '4Ralph,', from '6Munch to Spook,' your class has added spark and leadership to Tower Hill that has brought distinction in athletics, intellectual achievement, and real excel- lence in many extra-curricular activities. Memories of discussions about the merits of fascism, coats and ties, a summer in Switzerland, Republicans, a home run against the Sallies, frequent baby-sitting for the Sav- ages, tennis court repartee, an Amish lad, boffs in history class--these will remain with me longer than you think. ln the years to come keep your sense of humor and spirit of fun and continue with the same determination to do your best as you have shown here. And l hope especially our friendships will not end this June. Emest C. Savage To the Class of 1960: An Arabian proverb states tnat Men are Four: '6He who knows not, and knows not he knows not, is a foolg shlm him. He who knows not, and knows he knows not, is a childg trust him. He who knows, and knows not he knows, is asleep, wake him. He who knows, and knows he knows, is wiseg follow himf, I hope we only part to meet again, and often. Best wishes always. Howard E. Yule ERNEST C. Mr. Coates was born in Wayne, Pennsylvania. He attended Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia and graduated from there in 1943. From 1943 until 1946, he wrved in the United States Navy as a lieutenant. He attended Wil- liams College where he received his B.A. in 1948. From this time until his entrance at Tower Hill in 1956, he taught at Greenwich Country Day School. ln 1960 he received his lVI.A. at the University of Pennsylvania. He became headmaster on January 1, 1960. To the Class of 1960: One of the particular pleasures of my four years at Tower Hill has been watching the class of 1960 grow and flourish. Since your days as unsure freshmen you have matured and blossomed to an unusual degree. As a senior class you have grown to know and respect each other and to take an interest in the varied and sometimes unusual opinions expressed by your classmates. You have been an interesting, intelligent, and imaginative group with no lack of original ideas. ln the days that lie ahead I know that you will make contributions to your college and later to the communities in which you settle down. Because you have always been an inquisitive group, I would urge you again to keep open minds, to keep inquiring in search of elusive Truth, and to remember as one man has put it that there can be no discussions without contradictiong for contradiction is the stimulus of self- examination and learning. Good luck to you alll Malcolm Coates
