“
As the 1986-87 school year comes to a close, the memories will be cherished throughout our lives. The circus theme we selected is one we feel truly corresponds with the events of this school year. Let your imagination take you through the following pages as you relieve past experiences or encounter new ones. To help carry out the theme of our yearbook, the page headings are actual words and expressions from the Big Top scene. We hope you are as enthusiastic about this TOLO as we are. We thank the yearbook staff who dedicated many hours of hard work. Without this dedication the 1987 TOLO would not have been possible. Thank you also to Mrs. Gibler, our advisor, whose devotion and time is much appreciated. Sit back and enjoy our extravaganza as we pull back the curtains and . .. Welcome you to the circus! Take Care Best Wishes, Maria Henneberry Jenny Howell DEDICATION Mrs. Judy Taylor “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Henry Brooks Adams Mrs. Taylor came to Toulon in the fall of 1971. Since that time, she has taught math at all levels, accounting, and English. She has also devoted much time and effort as student council advisor. Mrs. Taylor is one of those teachers whose “influence on eternity” will not be questioned because of the inspiration and dedicated service she’s given the students of T.H.S. Some of the members of the class of 1987 shared their favorite pictures with Tolo. These pictures reflect good times, good friends, and good memories. They reflect the changes they’ve gone through. These pictures are without names and captions because they are for the Class of 1987, and the memories within each picture will never fade. 30 Seniors ... A THOUSAND WORDS. Coach Carstens felt he was one of the hardest workers on the team. Kyle played safety and tight-end, and scored a crucial touchdown against Galva. Kyle’s outstanding play this year reflected his all-around abilities. Chad Donath—Chad came into this year with a lot of ambition and intensity and you could see it in his play. Chad made lots of crucial catches in many games, always coming through. Chad’s great hands and quick speed made him fun to watch. He was definitely the most spirited person on the team. Kevin Winslow—Kevin was our other cocaptain this year. Through his tough, aggressive play, he earned the respect of his opponents and an All-Conference title at his Tackle Position. Kevin’s aggressive play also earned him a touchdown after recovering a blocked punt at Alexis. Kenny Price—Kenny always gave his best effort and gained the respect of every man he faced. Kenny’s mental responsibilities were very intense because the opponents he faced were usually bigger than him and he handled the pressure very well. Steve Dorman—Steve always played hard and towards the end of the season earned a starting defensive position. Steve’s effort gained recognition as the team most improved player. Without a doubt, this year was Steve’s most outstanding year in football. Tony Carlton—Tony was our starting center this year. Many times Tony had to face a much larger opponent, but he always came out on top. His short temper and aggressive attitude gave him the edge he needed. Football 41 TOP-FLIGHT Toulon J.V. Miss Jan Magee sponsored the basketball cheerleaders and provided advice and a great percentage of her time to help the spirit season prosper. Basketball Cheerleading for the 1986-1987 schedule proved to be more than worthwhile when Toulon beat Wyoming to win Regionals and go on to Sectionals. The varsity basketball team captured the regional title this year for the first time in our school’s history. The victory came against Wyoming in front of a capacity crowd in our very own gym. The fanfare and sportsmanship outlasted the tension between the two schools and Toulon walked away with first place. Although the loss suffered at the sectionals was disappointing, we were all proud of the team’s accomplishments. The team ended its season with a record of 13 wins and 14 losses and a third place trophy in the Bradford tourney. Basketball 45 TRIUMPHAL RETURN SENIORS Above—Dennis Wagenbach (50), Kyle Howard (10), Chad Donath (20). This year’s basketball team was represented by only three seniors, but the leadership and talent that they provided strengthened the team physically and mentally. The “Beastie Boys” ran away with the recognition of grand Prize as they successfully cloned the actual “Beastie Boys”. The night revealed unseen before sides of the classmate as they stepped into the shoes of their admired musicians. The $400.00 collected for the spectacular evening was to be used for weightlifting equipment. 54 Airband The party kings Passionate Pointer Sisters Jim McMillen, Mike DeWitte, and Aaron Donath The Pointer Sisters: Missy Milby, Maria Henneberry, and Jenny Howell ORCHESTRATIONS (top) Concert Band—front row: Jana Jones, Linda Giesenhagen, Teri Graham, Kris Wang, 2nd row: Denise Meaker, Kim Wallace, Amy McMillen, Stacy Ham, Cammie Andrew, Lori Webber, 3rd row: Judy Snyder, Stephanie Krans, Heidi Sammet, Ginger Peterson, Jim McMillen, Maria Henneberry, Lisa Young, Gary Becket, Joanne Chamberlain, Michelle Henneberry, last row: Tonya Blumhagen, Dav Drowns, Bob Davis, Danny Chamberlain, J. Since my freshman year, I always felt that if I got elected president that I could do a lot for the FFA. When they said that they were not going to have an Agriculture program at Toulon anymore, I thought that it would start to kill off Toulon, by starting to cancel the program. Going to Wyoming to continue the program has been a great success in the eyes of some. But myself, I have mixed feelings. I give a lot of credit to the Wyoming FFA and Mr. Jones for giving us the chance to continue what could be a dwindling hope. But it has been hard to continue the communications because of the distance. We still have had some success at judgings, trips, contests, and others bringing home some ribbons. But I feel that next year or in the next two years the Wyoming FFA will open their arms and accept our own FFA as a mixed group.” “And thanks again for your support, Steve Dorman, President F.F.A. 59 GLITTERING (top) Sweetheart Dance court 1987 (right) King—J. It all coincides with the 1987 Sweetheart Dance promoted by the FFA. Due to the drop of FHA from the curriculum, the FFA did a solo appearance. 97X radio station came to play various songs including the theme song—“Take Me As I Am”. Falling on Valentines Day, the Sweetheart Dance was the appropriate title and also the colors which were pink and white.
