One of the undertakings of this past year was having Homecoming two nights. This was the first year that TTHS has tried to have a Coronation Ball Saturday night following the Friday night football game. Also, this year the floats made by the various classes and organizations were all based on the theme TV Commercials. This past year Janice Miller, a Junior at TTHS, was elected Pekin District Student Council Vice-President. For the State Student Council Convention at Chicago, the Student Council helped Janice make the district display to be placed in the Hall of Ideas at the Convention. The Council tried two new ideas for the Christmas program this year. Each first hour class decorated their classroom door for the Door Decorating Contest. The senior Physics class won the prize for the prettiest door. Also, each class (freshman, sophomore, etc. ) presented a short skit in the program. These skits were supposed to represent Christmas in some other country. The senior class won with their skit entitled Christmas in Russia. After the skits. Reverend Howard Clegg from the Congregational Church gave a talk on the real meaning of Christmas. During the past year Toulon High School's GAA has enjoyed many recreational activities including hiking, soccer, volleyball, trampoline, gymnastics, basketball, and softball. The GAA started thier social year in September with a party for new members which consisted of a hike and wiener roast. Several of the girls and their advisor went to a Fall Playday in September at Bradford High School and had a very enjoyable time. In November football boys, and a bake sale took the spotlight in December. In February the Informal and Formal Ini-ations were held for new members. The GAA concluded their school year in May with the presentation of awards and the installation of new officers. In June they sent two representatives from the GAA to leadership camp at Hudson, Illinois, where they received many valuable ideas that could be used for the coming school year in their GAA. 1ST ROW; V. The Toulon High School Marching Band had a very successful season in 1966-1967. Fielding the largest band for several years, the Trojan Band introduced a new style of mar-ching called Patterns of Motion. With the addition of Pom-Pom girls this year, the band had a whole new look; a new look that won them a second place trophy in the Illinois State University Homecoming Parade. A football season is not always determined by the won-lost column. I know it is nice to go undefeated, but this is not always possible. The important thing is, how hard do the players work in practice, the attitude they display during practice and games, the pride they take in representing their school, and giving their maximum effort until the last second of every game. I feel the football squad members want our school to get on top in every way. They displayed this desire throughout the season's practice sessions and in every game. Never have I had boys work harder to build a winning team,. We had a real group of champions on and off the field this year, and I'm proud that I had the honor of coaching them. The Toulon Fresh-Soph, football team experienced a successful year, and gave hope to the Trojan fans who dream of better teams in the future. If this group keeps its spirit and desire, Toulon fans can look for a better varsity record for the next few years. This year's team was lead by several outstanding sophomores, and was greatly aided by unbelievably fast development of the freshmen, who had no football experience until they reported to high school practice. The young Trojans were especially tough on defense as they allowed their opponents only ten points per game. Defensive standouts were: defensive signal caller and second leading tackier, linebacker, Keith Knowles; leading tackier, Randy Mock; and defensive man of the year Junior Moats. The offensive was lead by cocaptain and quarterback, Jim Cinnamon who completed 45 of 100 passes; halfback Rob Finney, who carried 101 times for 34 yards; Ken Jackson, who carried 63 times for 346 yards; and by freshman Ken Dutton who caught 24 passes for 340 yards. The starting offensive lineup that used an unorthodox eight-man line was: Ends were Dutton and Thorne; Tackles were Mock, Moats, and Wilkinson; Guards were Turnball and Knowles; Center was Krans; Quarterback was Cinnamon; Halfbacks were Finney and Jackson. With Mock, Moats, Knowles and determined Paul Wilkinson opening gaping holes, the offense averaged seventeen points per game. Is the success of a basketball team determined by the number of games won and lost? The Toulon Trojans won eight and lost thirteen this year, and they had a successful year. We started our season without six letter men from the 65-'66 ball team which had won seven ball games. We were in a rebuilding year. At the start of the season, we had only Rudy Krans and Ron Lewis neither of which had seen much action before. We also had a rather young ball club with only two Seniors on the squad. I believe the team showed improvement throughout the year and gained the much needed experience that a team needs to have a winning season. Our team showed the desire to win this year by the way they hustled and came back in many of the games. Next year we are looking forward to a better record with six returning lettermen. In closing we would like to express our appreciation and thanks to each staff member who gave of his time to produce this yearbook and to the teachers who were inconvenienced by our necessary procedures.
