ldent of the class of 1935 Then haung brax ed all he1 stuches 1HC1Ud 1ng the cold blasts of G JUIILIS Caesar she closed hel sophomole yeal Then 1n September 1933 the carefree band of f1ol1cke1s better knoun as the Class of 1935 returned to school as glorlous JLIIIIOIS who were de termlned to settle down and swell the ranks of the honor rolls Alas af ter two years of medlocre work the studes had completely forgotten how to studv that IS all except Rube and a grocers handful of others As a result the Class of 35 d1d such Sl1pSh0d work that many of ou1 profs became bald from the constant detachment of wads of ha1r Agaln Rube kept up the good work for Dlrector Eastman and she was awarded the cox eted Owl and T for her Work 1n that restaurant story Youth Must Be Served Her role as an actress changed sllghtlv that year though for she was chosen to coach Mr Dlckens Chr1stmas Carol and any cry1ng done by our herolne was done beh1nd scenes 1m mune from the publlc eye Rube made the finals of the prlze speakmg contests held that year and her efforts vsere g1eatly apprec1ated The same year Rube refused renomlnatlon for V109 Presldent to ac cept the nom1nat1on for the Presldency thereby beconung the first g1rl to have that honor But the studes had not qulte grasped the ldea of a Presldentess so Bet went down to glorlous defeat However she was consoled by her elect1on to the Job of ASS1St3Dt Ed1tor of the newly form ed X Ray whlch was born after the death of the Tabula 1n 1933 atlon and the carefree horde IS a hftl more s rmus fo fhwk of leaung our fosterlng mother Alma Mater but the Romans had two words for lt and so tempus fuglt Durmg the summer vacatlon Rube was sl1pp1ng ln a httle practlce for her future career teachlng She taught a small group of tlny vacatloneers the fundamentals of the Blble In th1S her last year Rube has FISEH from the pos1t1on of Ass1stant Edltor to the glor1ous 1ob of Edltor ln Ch1ef of the schools prosperous publ1cat1on the X Ray The success of thls new organ1zat1on most cer talnly IS due to a great extent to Betty For the fourth year Rube has served the Melpothahan Dramat1c Club She has taken part 1n a plav entltled Rosalle and was a lead1ng play er ln the mus1cal success Once ln a Blue Moon 1n whlch sh prov ed that her talents also 1ncluded slnglnff She was elected secretarv of the Dramat1c Club after four vears of hard work and together Wlth a commlttee appolnted for the purpose drew up an entlrely new constltutlon for that club that the members to come may have an even better club than me have had When blgger and better thlngs are accompllshed Rube Wlll haxe a finger 1n them Bettv s mus1cal talents do not stop at slngmff fol she has performed thls vear wlth the school orchestra and the 1azz band About the second week 1n March It was announced that Bet was to I Sl . 1 4. Hlstory of the Hlstorlan In September 1931 there entered thls lHStltLlt10I1 of h1gher le un mg a horde of carefree youths to whom Hlgh School was Just one mole step on the1r merry w ay to manhood and womanhood They entered T H S W th the feellng Oh Ill work hard th1s year but not too hard for I stlll have three years 1n wh1ch to study Months rolled by and thls feellng became an attltude of Walt t1ll next year There was however one young mlss among the gay band who turn ed a deaf ear to the ent1cements and p rsuas1ons of the merry comrades to JOIH them ln the1r rex elrles True she was no slave to studv but she worked hard and abowe all steadlly llke a telephone operator fllllng the holes VV1th stralght A s and occaslonally ft mere A Our herolne was a way ahead of the tlmes for she had a report card full of A s long before the Roosevelt adm1n1strat1on Wlth 1ts AAA and alphabet1c enlgmas However Rube as she IS 1nt1mately called took enough tlme to take a share of soc1al and club act1x1t1es In fact she took the lloness s share Twas a happy day when the Melpothahan Dramat1c Club s roster boast ed of her name She became an accomplished dramatxst and as part of wh1ch was presented before school closed for the Noel There was but one blemlsh on her score of spotless performances That was when Na ture deserted our actress and she began to cry IH a scene that called for laughter Our cr1t1cs must not be too sexere though for Rube was onlv a Freshwoman The usual strlng of blue A s COHt1I'ILl6Cl when school reopened ln the fall of 32 Then for the second consecutne year Rube became a whiz zlng httle ghost that sped around collect1ng 15c for the school publlca t1on the Tabula One more good 1ob done Sometlmes Rube became a llttle d1ZZV from dolng so manx good turns at once The Dramatlc Club contlnued to hold Rubes attentlon and she be came a chorme IH the Eastman productlon Peggy and her P1rate Then the das of days came for our he1o1ne and she w as asslgned the lead IH Jumpmg the Broom She d1d such a good yob and became so lnilamed w 1th the 1ump1ng sp1r1t that she spralned her ankle the next dan 1ump 1ng rope at the Y Alas twas mlserx for our he1o1ne to be confined home for two full weeks deprn ed of the glorxous studung that T H S affords But compensat1on was awarded for Rube was chosen Vice ples Nl C ' 8 , y .
