Their hard worls and diligent proctice paid off in the long-run, and even though they laclsed the expe- rience ond equipment of other schools, they dominated the County Competition against Pender High. These young people have accom- plished a great deal in a year's time and deserve a lot of credit. Once again, the Topsail Odyssey of the Mind teams hove excelled in the competitions this year. Solving all new problems and breezing through sponta- neous challenges have spurred on these young sleuths to higher gools. The senior high structure teom built an extraordi- nary tower made from 14.2 g. of balsa wood and held 365.5 lbs.l This incredible feat led them to the regional competi- tion in March. Not Picturedr Christy Cannot. ln a class of their own, Topsail's Math- counts team, coached by Col. Bill Maus, has gone ahead to achieve high stan- dards of excellence. These arithmetic aristocrats take math seriously and prac- tice nearly every day to help boost their knowledge on the Pythagorean Theo- rem and the lows of non-Newtonian mathematics. ln the famous words of Col.
