Supervised by Mrs. Wood- cock, they helped out with a lot of local activities such as the 'lCoats for the Coat- less drive to help collect and distribute warm clothing for the poor and needy, They also supported most of the aca- demic clubs like Quiz Bowl and Math- counts, and spent most of the year rais- ing money for senior scholarships. Jr. Honor Society is a recent addition to Topsail's academics program. The aualifications for being a member are rather strict, and failure to conform to these qualifications usually results in dismissal. This group, headed by Mrs. Shuford, raised money throughout the year for the tap-in ceremonies held in the spring and fall, STUDENT GOVERNMENT: Fronrz Susan Satterfield, Chris Smith, Amy Gray. The Student Council, with all of their time and effort, have set a foundation for their fellow classmates to serve and honor our school. Supporting the wants and needs of the student body, these people took charge in most of the school-related activities such as Home- coming and acting as tour guides for Initiation Day. Baclf Mrs. Woodcocls, John Taylor, Mel Manuel. The Quiz Bowl team, coached by Mrs. Woodcocls, has represented Topsail this year with pride. Their hard worls and diligent proctice paid off in the long-run, and even though they laclsed the expe- rience ond equipment of other schools, they dominated the County Competition against Pender High. These young people have accom- plished a great deal in a year's time and deserve a lot of credit. Once again, the Topsail Odyssey of the Mind teams hove excelled in the competitions this year. Solving all new problems and breezing through sponta- neous challenges have spurred on these young sleuths to higher gools. The senior high structure teom built an extraordi- nary tower made from 14.2 g. of balsa wood and held 365.5 lbs.l This incredible feat led them to the regional competi- tion in March.
