Since Topsail hasn't had a newspa- per in three years, it was theirjob, along with new teacher Leslie Sands, to re- awalsen this ancient art. After getting a late start, they diligently began their quest, working in their spare time since there was no class set up for newspaper. The Beacon would become the brand new name for the paper, and the staff prepared to publish two spring issues. We lools forward to many future is- sues of The Beacon. Fourth: Mel Manuel, Melvin Sharpless, Dwight Cox, John Taylor, Steven Covil, John Ingram, and William Corbett. The National Honor Society is com- prised of some of Topsail's highest achievers. Supervised by Mrs. Wood- cock, they helped out with a lot of local activities such as the 'lCoats for the Coat- less drive to help collect and distribute warm clothing for the poor and needy, They also supported most of the aca- demic clubs like Quiz Bowl and Math- counts, and spent most of the year rais- ing money for senior scholarships. NATL. JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY: Front: Mrs. Shu- ford, Yashica Mills, Glen Simmonds, Mandy Lake, Danna Horn, Winnie Berger, Shirley Logan. Second: Mike Rivera, Pere Paschall, Lucy Pasquel, Karum Hill, Joanna Taylor, Jennifer Skipper, Anita Wort- man, Sandy Gray. Third: Kirby Lewis, Kelvin Redd, Jeff Atkinson, Jason Rimel, Catherine Pierce, Eileen Julien, Back: Reggie Fuller, Chris Vause, Ann Atkin- son, Meg Satrerfield, Donnie O'Neil, Justin Poore. The Natl. Jr. Honor Society is a recent addition to Topsail's academics program. The aualifications for being a member are rather strict, and failure to conform to these qualifications usually results in dismissal. This group, headed by Mrs. Shuford, raised money throughout the year for the tap-in ceremonies held in the spring and fall, STUDENT GOVERNMENT: Fronrz Susan Satterfield, Chris Smith, Amy Gray. Second: Shana Redd, Marti Harrell, Tammie Thomas, Brad Pete. Third. Sabrina Sanders, Sandy Shingleron, David Duncan, Twanna Barts, Mrs. Grubbs. Fourthr Yashica Mills, Hunter Warwick, Lucy Pasauel, Ann Atkinson, Becky Barrs, Jennifer Skipper. The Student Council, with all of their time and effort, have set a foundation for their fellow classmates to serve and honor our school. Supporting the wants and needs of the student body, these people took charge in most of the school-related activities such as Home- coming and acting as tour guides for Initiation Day. They sponsored the Senior citizens' banquet and helped our in many community activities, Sponsor Ms. Garrison supervised the group on their many undertakings. 82 ClubsfOrganizarians
