lnner Although the Lady Pirates got off to a slow start in the spring at '87, it didn't raise them long to get right into the Ewing of things. All the hard worls and long hours of practice paid oft early for the Pirates. For two weelss, they controlled the number one seat in the conference, but as they started the second round of conference play, the competition stiffened and the Lady Pirates dropped to third place. They finished the season in fourth place, landing just short of the State Playoffs, First year coach, Kay Piyer, brought with her new ideas and lots of ambition for the young, but experienced team, She showed the Lady Pirates the one Driye thing they needed in order to be such cessful, and that was the courage to believe in themselves and each other. Coming ott an 11-Q record, the Lady Pirates Ioolsed forward to the '88 season with great expectations. The team had three players batting over 500 at the end of the season and the three would be returning that next season - Luellyn Piver, Joya Ellis, and Susan Evans. With these and other talented players on the team, the Lady Pirates planned to be a dominant force in the Coastal 1A Confer- ence for the coming season, Senior shortstop, Traci Little, raises time out before a game to gather her thoughts OPPONENT THS N.
